Personally I think it's cute, but to each their own.

That's why we have nude mods.

Lol her dress is one of my favorites....No it isn't realistic but I mean it's a video game and a fictional story so honestly who cares? Definitely not the dedicated fan base. Just check out reddit.

While probably 4 is the weekest fashion sense wise, I still think the Fatal Frame franchise has some of the best designs for a fun looking horror game characters, not too out there to be dumb, but also not common and boring looking like most games trying to be "realistic" to appeal to western modern audiences.

If anything I think they fail a bit on their male character designs, they could be a bit more memorable.

not hearing any good arguments as to why she should look like she has a silly DLC outfit on by default

Why the ♥♥♥♥ are there Roman legionnaire lookin ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ in new Vegas even though they should technically get wiped by any force with stockpiled guns? You cant convince me that the toys r us plastic Tupperware they call armor actually helps against bullets. And why don't the guns instantly kill with headshots? Why doesn't it take just one? Games don't always have to be realistic lol

Yeah it's literally just open button up, under shirt and jeans every time lmao. For the playable, anyway. At least mafuyu is rocking the long sleeve

Westerner sometimes don't understand how unique Japanese game. They judge the game with western perspective no wonder why they change Ada Re4 into normal clothes instead Qipao because they want to fit in "western perspective".

Yeah, Mafuyu's black and white set is cool, probably why he's the most visually memorable male character alongside the white haired guy in FFII.
I wouldn’t wear a dress that frumpy, it’s a fashion disaster no doubt

I just remembered that this game is a prequel and takes place in 1980. So maybe it was fashionable at the time?

All jokes aside, I heard when the game was first released that the entire thing was inspired by a semi-obscure hentai movie Suda 51 really liked called "Crimson Climax" which was based on an even more obscure video game. The rumor actually got me to watch that.... and it was interesting for what it was I suppose. The basic premise from what I remember was that a young girl winds up having to go back to this island where she once lived with her mother after her mother passes on. There is a sex murder cult there that pretty much murders young girls at their height of pleasure in order to harvest their tendons to make demonic murder golems. I mean it is a hentai, but it does play around with themes of memory loss, surrealism, and dubious recollection along with some questions along the way about what might be real and what isn't before it becomes entirely obvious. In short it does indeed seem like the sort of thing Suda-51 might like looking at his body of work.

At any rate the bottom line is that I remember a lot of people in fan circles saying that while this has a totally different plot and no graphic sex, the inspiration of certain bits are painfully obvious if you know the source including the amnesia and the way the island is stylized. It's also supposed to be chock full of easter eggs, and while I don't specifically remember the Hentai enough to place it, apparently that dress is directly inspired by one of the looks seen in CC albeit briefly, and is one of the easter eggs present if anyone was ever to make the connections.

True or not, remember one of the creative minds behind this game LOVEs surrealistic, reality bending and perception based stuff, and even if what I heard is totally bogus it does fit in with this specifically because it doesn't fit in with what you'd expect. This is the guy who made an entire game about a dude in a wheel chair who kills surrealistic monsters by weaponizing his split personalities, pulling off a victory in the end basically because one of his personalities is a crazy luchador who basically believes his heroic nature makes him invincible, and thus he is. Or at least that is how I understood it, the fact that many people might understand that entirely differently should give you some ideas about why he might like that dress, in this environment though. :)

Yeah, her dress was picked because it is one that was worn by pianists of this time period, and she is one. https://youtu.be/yo7ltPFCJzg?t=96
