Pilum offhand, fist main hand.. how does auto-combat work?

Title. Does my guy run right in to attack even though he has a range weapon or only use the main fist when they get close. Talking about when holding tab, aint time to click everything manually.

your range is dictated by your main hand weapon. If you attack something with a length one weapon (like a fist) in your main hand, you will be able to attack things at most one tile away. If you want to make that work anyway you could always grab Psiblade to increase your bare fist range
