question about armor and block
fighting arbiters with 900 of hit using slash (they are using slash)

i am against 4 of them, no summons involved

i have 90% of block with 1500 block, and 1500 armor (maybe a bit more due to effects)

i would expect to shrugg off all of their attacks, since the game says that both blocking and armor has a 100% of efficiency for physical attacks

the result, different of course, is not too good for my (now-dead) character

i end receiving multiple hits of 100 slash damage until my char is dead

i do not get it why i am dead, i have reviewed the logs, i am not killed by any self-damage, i am killed by slashes of arbiters, from which i am supposed to shrugg off all of their attacks, what i am missing?

Armor has a 10% chance to fail. Same with dodge. Block chance is also capped at 90%

Some enemies (I can't remember if arbiters do this or not, but it sounds like it) will deal, in addition to their usual attacks, additional hits that ignore all defenses. Usually these hits are pretty minor, 40-100 damage each, so it's only a problem if you take dozens of them.

It is true that arbiters have one skill that deals damage after their attack, this is what has killed me

block only blocks the damage from being directly attacked by damage that counts as an "attack." If you take random aoe damage or other effects that don't count as a direct "attack" then block doesn't do anything.

How does block work exactly?
X% chance of negating damage equal to block value?

It works mostly the same as armor. It has x% chance to do anything at all, and then it rolls a number between 1 and the block value. That roll reduces the attack roll damage by that number. If it completely nullifies the attack then it triggers "on block" effects.

I say mostly the same as armor because armor is exactly the same except it doesn't have that initial x% to do anything at all block chance part of the equation.

I just checked the tooltips and they never state that block and armor roll for a number between 1 and the block/armor value. Only the roll for the enemy hit is recorded. Indeed, checking all my screenshots of battle logs the block and armor values stay the same.

Only for dodge you have to make a roll 1-dodge value, armor and block are constant.
