Newb Questions Regarding Successful Runs....

Only about 2.5 hours into my experience with the game and enjoying it so far.
I've had two victorious runs using mostly stationary characters. I see my both characters in the Maqbara with the "Victorious!" tag and an option to "Start"...

If I select Start, am I picking up where I left off in a new run? I'm confused whether or not this is the way the game is meant to be played...should I continue with each character or was their victorious runs considered a win?

The Victory was enough.
Clicking Start in the Maqbara starts "The Path of Dust" which is an endless mode sort of thing.
