1. Engi B
Normally I'm fine with a single crewmember (even though I don't have much experience with that since I almost never lose them), however the lack of sensors, lack of firepower, lack of a three person medbay, lack of usefullness, ect. makes it extremely difficult in all situations.
2. Rock A
Now, I don't want to sound rasict, but all the starting crew are Rockmen. Seriously! If you're going to start with sluggish crewmembers you should at least get a lot of them so you can have them stationed at different ends of your ship! Secondly, you start only with missiles. My mind of conservation of missiles of using the hull missile on systemless rooms gets me killed. And if I try my hardest to lower my standards of missile wasting I run out of missiles quickly. Buying missiles from shops just so you can continue fighting will make it diffcult to find scrap to upgrade your ship! If this was a ranking of ships I hate it would be different because I personally find this ship boring and frustating.
3. Zoltan B
Now the only reason I put this here is because of three things. First off, I can't find much difficulty in any other ship and I've personally played at least 1 hour with all 18 ships. Secondly enemies boarding you in events is a definately a problem that can get your zoltan killed fairly early if you aren't careful. Rare, but it can happen sometimes. Finally, It bugs me a decent amount that it costs 100 scrap for the first level of shields. I know that it is within your ship upgrades, so you don't need to go to a shop, but it doesn't start with cloaking like the stealth ships do. Now don't get me wrong that I consider Zoltan B to be difficult, it simply wasn't as good as the other 15 ships not listed for the start at least. It gets pretty good having the zoltan shield near the end of the game.
P.S. I love both stealth ships. I rarely lose with them, so I'm not sure why people find it so difficult. Maybe they never forget how much they take the shields for granted. Without shields, you can never be 100% safe without it being temporary. I constantly think, so it is never much of a bother to me.
I was all hyped up for this ship and...it's really not that impressive. The Crystal weapons are nice, since you could beat/deal dmg to enemies with up to 3 shields but the layout sucks. Furthermore the special Augment doesn't really help, especially since the enemy can dodge the retaliation shard. At least you start with 2 Cystal guys that's ...something at least. The Type B unlocks seem annoying to get, probably among the most annoying imo.
Now the only ship I have yet to unlock is the Slug Ship. That thing continues to elude me too, whenever I find the Homeworlds I can't find an enemy that will trigger the event...
However, I do agree the layout is fairly bad for both crystal ships. It's a unique price to pay for such an amazing new tactic to play the game with.
The Cyrstal Vengence is indeed terrible - but just like the Titanium System Casing it can be sold for a hefty sum giving you a solid scrap boost from the first store you find.
The achievements are relatively easy - damage their ship down to 1 hull, turn shields off and wat. After getting the achievement might as well reset. For the other, simply a matter of going long enough that you find an enemy ship with 4 crew. Move around to pull the pilot away and get them all in a big room and lockdown - easy peasy.
All in all, Crystal B was TOTALLY worth that trouble!
Trapping enemy crew inside of a room using the crystal lockdown and then using fire or breaching (fire would be more effective, though). I would've thought of that strategy if I ever obtained both a breach/fire bomb along with a crystal lockdown bomb, but I never thought of using the crystal crewmembers themselves for that type of thing...
