FTL game breaking lag

It's sudden, played it fine for months, around 50 hours, and now it just lags horriblely, my rig can run skyrim great on ultra so... wtf. When I first had the problem I immediately updated my drivers (video card was out of date), and it ran fine... once. Now I have the same problem, only getting like 2 fps, I've tried enabling v-sync, fullscreen, re-installing, verifying the integrity of the game cache, everything I gan think of. Anyone else having this problem?

having the exact same problem. i haven't tried re-installing or anything yet, but i did tweak the settings and it didn't help at all. i stopped trying to play after about five seconds of a lag-fest.

i'm also having this problem. I was previously completely okay with the game, and now its lagging.

You probably have a virus.
Use malwarebytes and microsoft security essentials. both free.

also, disable moving backgrounds.

Ok, to clarify, I have 16 gigs of ram, a nvidia 670, and an amd 8 core 8i20, I don't need a new computer... and I have an incredibly overactive antivirus, it recognizes any program off the internet as a virus, already tried disabling backgrounds.

I suddenly have this same problem today - annoying as hell. Inside the FTL window, my mouse cursor jerks from lag horribly, making clicking buttons nearly impossible. As soon as the mouse cursor leaves the FTL window, the cursor moves smooth as silk.
The crewmembers also walk very slow and combat takes 3-4x times as long.
I basically stopped playing. :(

I also have started having extremely slow FPS since a couple of days ago. I also had ZERO problems with speed in the game for 50+ hours of game play before this. Does anybody have any useful information about this? "Update video card," "disable background," and other idiotic advice not needed. This is specific change which has happened to multiple people in 3 days or so, and seems to have nothing to do with system environment(s).

Restart Steam in offline mode. This fixed the lag for me. You can sync everything when you turn Steam back on. Obviously this is not ideal, but the problem is clearly with Steam and not the game.
