manning the systems
hi, man..this is a fun game.

im wondering about something..does stacking more units on the same part of the ship systems make it work faster? for example i put two person in the weapons room. Will it make weapons recharge faster or i should only use one person to man a room?

Only one person can man a system. Although it's still a good idea to put extra people you have in manned systems so they can be repaired faster if they get damaged.

Only ever put two people in a room if the second man is a zoltan powering the system.

I tend to put any extra crew into a "Hub" room, thats near everything so he can easily run around repairing.

It can be worth putting extra people in certain rooms, as it seems some rooms get boarded more frequently or are harder to vent. An extra mantis in the pilots cabin can seriously ruin some boarding parties' day. Engines seems to be fairly common boarding target for kestrel A IMO. It is also close to teleporter and O2 system, so can be handy to keep extra people there too.

Extra crew to manage boarders is only a real concern when you don't have upgraded doors, though; those and venting are much more effective for directing enemy boarding crews.

I always try to have someone on standby in the O2 room. It's quite common that the enemy try to disable it for you, I know I do. :)

When I first got the engi cruiser I kept putting a crew member in the drone room thinking he would man it, then wondering why he was standing around and not fiddling with things like my other crew members!

In order:
1st: Crew member in the pilot seat (pref a human for no real reason lol)
2nd: Engines (Zoltan is awesome, Engi is great)
3rd: Weapons (Zoltan again or Engi)
4th: Shields (Zoltan yet again or Engi) Or whatever I have
5th: Oxygen (Rock or Engi)
6th: Medbay (Engi or Mantis)
7th Transporter (Rock, Mantis second)
8th Transporter (Again Rock is better for me, Mantis are ok, but seem to get beat up quite alot)

Put two Zoltans in the shields room. Now ions cannot disable it because you have alternative power source ^^

I thought ions disabled the shields no matter what power source is powering them. And anyway, even if had 2 zoltans, shouldn't the ion disable the shield anyway?
i.e.

1)---2 zoltan power + 2 generator power = 4 power

2)---ion strikes

3)---2 zoltan power + 0 generator power = 2 power

I've never experienced such a situation so this is just an hypotesis.

You are correct, in this case the ion weapon disable the reactor energy but not the zoltan energy bonus, no matter how much ion damage is done, so you would still have 1 layer of shield.

Ok so you need two zoltans in order to run at least one layer
