About boarding drones
What do you guys think about it? I can't understand why they don't allow you to decide where the drone lands. It makes it difficult during those autoscouts using Mantis B. Unless you are expected to keep running away against them during the early sectors or something.

Never liked them. They're usually not worth the drone part, cause most enemy ships are loaded with crew and just kill it immediately; and even when using a boarding strategy, drone parts are better saved for defense drones.

Yes. If you have to wait until the boarding drone kills the autoscout by room damage, which takes a while, you might as well disable their weapons/drones instead of shield/engines.

Well I just thought that every enemy should be fought for the scrap, especially in the early sectors. So that means with the starting loadout I should just bail everytime those autoscouts appear?

Well the problem is with these boarding drones is that you don't get to choose where it goes. For a game where you have to micromanage everything this kinda ticks me off.

Before I had sensors upgraded I would throw in the boarding drones along with my mantis crew, but they get free shots at my ship in the process >_>
Honestly, you'll make so much additional scrap from boarding actions the rest of the game that whatever scrap you aren't able to collect from AI ships won't really make a difference. Small price to pay for how powerful the Mantis B is.

If you upgrade your teleporter on Mantis B you can use the Boarding drone to take the last hull point from them if it ends up in piloting, by depowering it if it does and using your 2 boarders to to deal the other damage first.

I don't like boarding drones much, and I just spent a couple weeks forced to mess around with them to get the ridiculous Boarding Objective achievement. They're reasonably good when combined with boarding, but almost useless otherwise. And of course they can land somewhere utterly useless where they don't even distract crew, their main useful purpose.

And, of course, with the Mantis B, they provide a way of taking out those annoying unmanned ships. At least if the ship is all connected or the drone lands somewhere it actually takes out the weapons.

One time using the Mantis B, I encountered an automated ship with disconnected rooms, no shields, one laser and one ion. On the first jump. The drone could never penetrate my 2 shields, I couldn't upgrade teleporter because it takes 35 scrap and this was the first jump, so I had to depend on the boarding drone. It went to the isolated cockpit, and the cockpit never repaired. Which I found out after I let it run for 20 minutes.

♥♥♥♥ boarding drones.

I never looked at it this way.

Which is why some "drone control" would be nice.

But you should get pilot and engines quite high during that time, shouldn't you?

Tip: Emergency Respirators + 2 fully trained Mantises is perfect against scouts, no matter how many shields they have. Made fighting scouts less of a hassle.
