Mantis fugitive event

So in most recent playthroughs I have encountered the event where a lone mantis teleports aboard your ship seeking assistance from the pursuing engy ship. Typically I have always chosen the side with the mantis option, because a mantis crew-member with the scrap from a fight seems the best reward, however it seems like every time (recently) the mantis sets me up the bomb (5 hull damage and system damage). I'm just curious if anyone has had the 'expresses his thanks' and joins the crew outcome recently?

Some hours ago I got the mantis. Anyway, I really hate this event.

Just shoot people who board your ship without permission. Shouldn't have been there anyways.

I've had it go either way many times. Don't know the percentages off hand, but somebody here probably will...

I always sided with the mantis too. But with the betrayals and the engie ship turning into a pirate I just couldn't be bothered. So any time I can I simply hand him over.

Not giving them the satisfaction of an ambush.

Accepting him as crew is 50/50. Rejecting him has 3 results: High reward, high reward + 5 damage, or a fight.

If you're low on crew, it may be worth the risk. OTOH, if you're low on hull or otherwise not too sure about the possibility of a fight (as in, will you win)...

I just hit the event and got a mantis to round out my crew, was lacking in the damage department. It's random as everything, just roll the dice and see what happens.

I wish there was atleast a blue option if you have Slug or advanced sensors so that you can verify that they are indeed Engi and not Mantis that hijacked the ship..

How about the Escape/cryo pod with Mantis markings? I always lose a crewmember. Or the giant spider event? Mantis events are the worst. Except for Robert Smith. Robert is cool.

Mantis Pod: 1 in 3 to lose crew, 1 in 3 to gain human, 1 in 3 to gain Mantis. Giant Alien Spiders: 50% mediocre reward, 50% lost crew.

unless you have clone bay, don't risk mantis pod or spiders.

I "roleplay" some of these encounters. I always turn over the Mantis without analyzing it, except in a rare situation where I really, really want a Mantis crewmember.

Similarly, I always refuse the surrender offer of that Engi encounter where they think you're robbing them and you explain you're peaceful. Because I HATE PIRATES and I am not going to be one even accidentally.
