Similar games with more permanence?
I did really enjoy this game, Multiverse also. But I could never get much mileage out of either as you are never really building toward anything except maybe unlocking a new ship.

This is fine and dandy for a little while. I unlocked quite a few ships in Multiverse, but there came a point where I was no longer content with unlocking slightly different ships just to repeat what is a pretty short-lived space adventure.

Absolutely love the gameplay itself. Combat is really satisfying. I've just had a longing for this style of gameplay but on a grander scale. Something slow-burning and with a deeper scope of progression. More of a deviation away from rinse and repeat campaign structure.

I don't suppose anyone knows of a game like that? I suppose I'm really after something with that super awesome ship-to-ship combat.

Here are some games I've already played, but they aren't really in the same category as FTL I'd say:

X3 - modded/unmodded
Freelancer-Crossfire
Deep Sky Derelicts
Everspace
Evochron Mercenary
KSP

For a very slow burning grand galaxy wide conquest of ship fleets you could check out "AI War" which pits you & possibly other human players against 2 AI's with overwhelming advantages against you where you cannot beat them in a straight up fleet fight.

Though this games combat is quite different from FTL but, maybe it is worth looking into.

i just noticed another thread stating that there's also a "captain's edition" mod
don't know anything about multiverse and captain's edition since i didn't really play enough of the base game, but it could be exactly what you seek, just a feeling (or a wild guess that won't be correct)

Thanks for chiming in with that.

I have been aware of CE for a while. It is to my understanding the older, crustier counterpart to Multiverse. I remember reading that Multiverse does pretty much everything better and is more expansive as a result of Hyperspace coded content. So ultimately I went with that over CE.

Multiverse is a fine mod, much harder than vanilla, expansive but also a campaign structure in the same vein as FTL. Was kind of hoping for something that breaks that particular threshold of adventures so limited in scope.

Even Multiverse runs are over before they feel like they've even begun, at least in contrast to the depth of your typical space-faring style game. Just very little continuity behind it.

This one has some similarities with FTL, it's a little different then FTL but I think it's similar enough that it may be of interest.

Cheers for the recommendation.

Looks vaguely similar to FTL. Not into deck-builders myself but maybe I could investigate further. Some user testimony suggesting it can be brutal at times. Suits me lol.

I think this is what you're looking for. The devs have a track record for putting a ridiculous amount of content in their games, and for patching them to a crazy degree.

Not exactly FTL-like but starsector is pretty cool

That definitely rings a bell. I believe I was close to buying that at one stage. Not sure why I didn't. Looks pretty damn awesome.

Cheers for that!

Yeah, looks pretty sweet. Well it would have to be better than Deep sky Derelicts. The combat in that one is very unsatisfying lol.
