Endless mode?

Will there ever be a endless mode, or a mode where you can keep playing after the game ends? According to the Kickstarter page for FTL, early, non-final versions of FTL were essentially "Play untill you die", if I remember correctly. Will that ever return?

seems like infinite mode could get very boring tho.
many pre igniter combos will mince meat any enemy ship before it even fires so you would literally be unable to die or even take a single point of hull damage.
