How the cloak works
Often I will cloak the moment the enemy fires....then about 2 seconds later when his missile shows on my screen my ship gets hit by the missile.
Sometimes the missile misses (same with lasers, etc).

So how exactly does the cloak work? It must be a bonus to not getting hit if a missile has already fired...and if you are cloaked before they fire at all, then you are completely safe during the duration of the cloak.

If this is the case, then it'd be best to wait till the last possible moment to cloak, since your percentage chance of getting hit remains the same as if you cloaked right as he fired...?

Thanks for any help!

Cloak give +60% evade chance. Unless you have at least 40% evade without cloak, there's always a chance you'll get a hit. Also, enemy weapons don't charge while you're cloaked.

enemys cant fire when your cloaked, so cloaking before they fire is nearly useless.

There are two exceptions:
- if you need protection against drones
- if you want to delay enemy beam weapons. You can't dodge beam weapons, so it's too late to cloak when it starts to fire

Your weapons keep recharging while you're cloaking, and because of this it's the only method how you can survive with a Stealth B when you're up against drones and ships with beam weapons.

Three:
You can disable enemy weapons from firing altogether, but you need more time for that.

With fast-charging weapons like those The Nesasio starts with, you can often shoot twice before the enemy shoots once if you time your cloaks right. That makes it viable to cloak before they shoot.

+60% flat evasion boost (with +40% from ship you won't be hit by anything except beams that already fired, or anything inside the shield bubble when you hit cloak- even with 100% evade, firing beams will hit you).

The hit calculation is made when the weapon passes your shield bubble (or where it would be with 0 shields), cloak anytime between their gun going green and firing and before the projectile passes the shield bubble and the flat evasion boost is applied.

100% pointless because you can delay the cloak and evade the projectile(s). You would just waste completely good cloak. The only exception is the beam weapon, my exception #2.

In most cases is the best time to cloak right after you have fired your weapons? This way your weapons charge while the enemy'sstay still?

Never used cloak before and just unlocked stealth ship. Wondering how exactly it is best used.

When to cloak depends on what kind of other defences you have (and on enemy weapons). There's no ultimate strategy.

Well, with a good boarding party you can kill the enemy crew before certain weapons(Flak II as example) even has time to charge and Cloak just extents that margin. It is certainly a good system to get.
