Where are save files located?

Yes, I know it's a "roguelike" and permadeath is sacrosanct for genre fans. But I don't care about that. Since the pigheaded devs are fixated on not allowing me to reload after dying, I've taken it upon myself to take care of the issue. All I need to do is find out where the saves are kept, so I can make a backup. Inconvenient, but this is the best way to play the game.
But they're not in the steam folder. They're not in document. They're not in appdata.
I don't want to start the game over and over. Repetition =/= fun.

Frankly, the devs should know better, and allow people to play without permadeath (it's not like deleting a save would be so hard for the permadeath fanboys. Finding a save, on the other hand, has proven more challenging. Very poor design decision).
So which folder would I find my saved game it?

Insulting the fanbase of not only this game, but this entire game genre and then asking for them to tell you how to cheat the game? You sir, are unlikely to get results.
