Can I directly download the game?
I just bought it.However I'm living in a student room with their ♥♥♥♥ ISP blocking the Steam ports. The only way I can access my Steam account is through browser,so I've stockpiled games on sale for the day in the next century when internet will truly be free for everyone.

But still,I want to play this game legit;since I bought it is there any function to download it directly to my computer without needing the Steam software?

Also by the way,I cannot play a lot of games that are already on my computer offline, like Don't Starve, because they keep telling me they "failed to connect to key server"...If anyone has an idea?

VPNs don't work with port blockade. You'd need to hire a privateer for that.

Why not just go to a cybercafe and download it there? It would only take 5 minutes.

For some reason I do not see myself walking through town lifting my computer unit around.

A friend's house would work too.
The game is pretty small, about 200 MB.

Another way you could do it, if you don't feel like bringing your computer somewhere, is to go to a friend's house, download FTL on their computer, then make a steam backup on a flash drive, bring the backup home, and restore it on your computer. I'm not 100% sure if this would work, but I don't see why it wouldn't.

Thought you had a laptop, being that you're in college. My apologies.

But the question is now, will the game start from my offline account? And since I have never connected Steam through my computer, doesn't it need some sort of authorization/checkup?

No sweat.

Is that even allowed, ISPs blocking ports? Net-neutrality and all..
Anyways, at my school they blocked the Steam UDP ports but not the TCP ports. You can force Steam to use TCP by adding the -tcp parameter to a Steam shortcut. Just a wild guess but maybe worth a try.
I'm willing to send you a backup of the game ( anyone know if that's allowed? ), but you probably don't have any use for it since your Steam client needs to verify you own the game.

I've launched FTL in offline mode before, so it should work.
I'm pretty sure steam will make you do an email confirmation when you first try log in from a new computer. It might also need to verify you own the game. I'm not sure if you'll be able to do that or get around it somehow.

This game fits on a cd, dude. As in, a cd-rw 650MB. If you can't get to somewhere with this info, you lack the skills to even use a computer.

You know they wouldn't even allow porn. Before I came all my friends reported they couldn't unload safely their manly urges and the situation was so bad that they were beginning to WORK instead...Then I introduced them to Tor browser and the world became a happier place.

On a side note they, well, they did censorship, real ass censorship, banning lots and lots of sites because of reasons...Then after some research I seen a lot of outcrys and denunciation from student associations and net neutrality groups.Turns out feminist sites were blocked because they were considered "porn sites";and that since this year now "bad taste pictures" and "questionable texts (=ideas)" apparently are official governemental legit reason to censor entire websites.Oh don't get me wrong I see nothing bad with that...After all amateur pictures of policemen beating on protesters isn't state of the art photography, and ew,if I were running the country too I'd try my best to weed out the wretched satanic ideology proposed by the opposition,so nothing threatens democracy!

What's good it's that "bad taste" and "questionable" that clearly doesn't leave any room to interpretation right.Clearly this is why France is so proud of its republican inheritage.

But anyway.I did that and it didn't work,damn...Skype works.I can update Minecraft but I can't connect to a game with it.I can't use Hamachi either.Seems the only way I can play the game would be to go on privateerlagoon...Too bad torrents are blocked too :' ( .I don't think Steam could verify anything even via e-mail,if the software isn't even able to communicate with the cloud.

I think that if you read the topic, you'd know why what you said is like, totally irrelevant or something.

But hey,if you want to insinuate I'm too dumb to use a computer and also CDs...
-I'm using a computer right now
-My computer has its CD lector disabled
-The reason why the CD lector is disabled it's because I built this computer with a bunch of separately bought and salvaged components and there weren't anymore room to fit the CD lector. It only cost me 150 Euros and I can run Arma III with that. But like,it's CDs right,it's last-gen.We have USB data keys now. That can store hundreds of Gigabytes! So hey!

♥♥♥♥♥ pleaaaase!...Dude!

Cost of cd: less than 1 money unit
Cost of stamp and envelope: less than 3 money units

Are you getting my point here?

I hope you don't actually mean the last part, and you're either being sarcastic or you don't want to get in trouble with some sorta evil government. If its the latter then don't say anything, just nod!

FTL is one of the games on Steam that are DRM free, if you can get the files you won't have to be signed in. Trouble is if you bought it through Steam the only way to download it is via the Steam client. Maybe if you contact the devs at Subset and explain the situation there's a chance they might decide to hook you up with a Humble Store key and you could download it straight from the browser. Unless you were paying with accumulated Steam Wallet funds I would have gotten it from the Humble Store anyway, was on sale for the same price, gets you a Steam key anyway, includes the soundtrack, and provides DRM free packages you can download from any browser

This is wrong, actually. Steam backup packages can be copied from another computer, right?
It's allowed to upload them to some filesharing site and then people can download from there and restore the backups on their own steam installation, right?
