2560x1600 resolution - can't get rid of black borders
First I just want to say I have searched and searched for days trying to fix this issue. I've come to the conclusion it's unfixable. I've seen many people have this problem. It was reported at games release. Supposedly in one of the patches it was fixed?

In the patch notes for v1.02 released in 2012 it says
"Fullscreen Changes:

  • Fullscreen stretch now works differently and should be more effective at properly "stretching" to fill your screen
  • Monitors that support 2560x1440 should be properly scaling and look much better (I'm jealous)
  • Monitors with resolutions less than 1280x720 may now function in Fullscreen Stretched depending on your OpenGL support
  • A more elaborate manual mode is available for tweaking your desired resolution effect within settings.ini

Now I have tried Fullscreen Native, Fullscreen Stetched, and Windowed. I have gone to the .ini settings file and manually changed the resolution settings. Stretched to on or off. I have tried programs that do borderless window fullscreen. I have even tried Disabling Display Scaling on High DPI settings (Windows Compatibility Setting). I have went to the nvidia control panel and forced or rather enabled overriding scaling mode set by games and applications to aspect ratio, full screen, and no scaling.

The only thing that got rid of the black borders was using that last option with full screen. However the game looked even worse. Not just stretched but only stetched vertically so for example the background planets looked oval.

I have tried all that and every possible combination of them. Some of those tweaks I tried wasn't even logical but was desperate to figure out a way. Apparently when this game's engine was being written it was hard coded to be rendered at 1280x720. Who has a gaming pc which the highest resolution is 1280x720? Even those crappy little netbooks they tried a few years back had higher resolution. @ 1366x768.

I have no idea even when manually setting it in the .ini file what resolution the game is rendering at. Because well the game doesn't tell you. You get one graphic option Fullscreen, Fullscreen stetched or windowed.

I spend way too much time trying to fix programmers lack of foresight for high res monitors. I mean damn Microsoft a billion dollar company can't even get proper scaling on Windows. Or maybe my lack of foresight.

Well what can I do to enhance my gaming experience? Oh I know I will buy a monitor that renders 2 million more pixels. Nope. Yeah you get a whole lot of detail and it's all crammed into one pixel. So it's rendering it beautifully you just can't see it. Or in this case I just get giant black bars slapped on my screen. Screw your $1000 monitor go buy a real monitor. Like a $100 1080p one from best buy. That's the future of gaming. Now I'm just ranting. I'm pretty sure I had a question but I lost it.

Same happens for me on resolution 1366x768. So irritating!
"Hey, I build that motor speedway, where I can go 200 mph. Why does that custom made car by some indie corporation I bought for little money not go as fast as the speedway supports?!"

I mean, srsly?!?

I can see that there might be general issues for some regarding the resolution, but really, complaining some indy project (that even migrated from portable device to pc) does not work correctly at some overblown resolution? Cool story..

btw..

Monitors that support 2560x1440 should be properly scaling and look much better (I'm jealous)

You know, only because the monitor does work up to 2560x1600 does not mean it only has to run at that resolution? Just set it to 2560x1440...

To get back to that comparison I made at the beginning of my post: only because your car goes 200mph, doesn't mean you can't use roads where the limit is set to 60mph (and actually keep to that limit ;))..

The answer is still probably in setting manual resolutions right, though you can't magically stretch it to full screen without, well, stretching the images.. 16:10 is 16:10 and ftl images only come in one version.

1366x768 should work without it if there are no other problems, but could probably force a fix with manual resolutions and the graphics panel (it sometimes overrides individual settings), too.
