Easy mode is very easy already. Play that.
if you start a game and die quickly there is not much to complain about. it is not like you invested much time into that playthrough.
FTL has helped me realize its ok to lose, especially if you undstand why the loss happened
For exmaple, you make a few jumps, only to find that you're now forced into a hostile encounter in an asteroid field. The enemy has a heavy laser and a mini-beam. One of the first asteroids hits your weapons, stopping the glaive beam from charging.
As you're repairing weapons, they fire their heavy laser, so you cloak.
Immediately after uncloaking, the mini-beam fires across your weapons again, stopping your glaive beam from charging again.
An asteroid hits your piloting.
With no weapons, no evasion and no FTL charging, your only option is to try to repair piloting and jump out, but while you're repairing piloting, engines get hit and break. You're taking more damage than you can keep up with, and your ship explodes before you can charge your FTL.
If you make it out of the first sector or two and get a shield, Stealth B can be very fun. If you know what you're doing, you can make it out of sector one MOST of the time, but sometimes you'll get shat on by simple bad luck.
Sure, pilot and engine guy run from drone bay to weaponry trying to keep them in one piece, but when antidrone drone keeps missfireing for 6 times in a row and weapons become destroyed too often, damage can be significant. Specially when their weapons or drones dont disable with 1 hit.
----------------
Stealth ship in asteroid field is a bad idea. If it's not Only root to exit beacon it should be evaded even if its loss of several jumps.
Besides, you don't even need an asteroid field to die. A single laser or beam drone can kill you. You can't possibly avoid every hostile encounter every time.
Getting out of sector 1 in the Stealth B requires luck. You can increase the chance of making it by a lot by making good choices, but even someone who makes the best choice at every moment could lose.
As for asteroids - its better rush to beacons in the end and float there around to see possible routs if hazards appear. Its not allways possible, but makes it bit more reliable.
But sure - lack of shield makes ship extremely vulnurable to drones and theres nothing that can be really done.
Cloak 3 allows you to win almost any fights in sectors 1 and 2 without a scratch. That's why it's the most important first upgrade for Stealth B.
Also, when you get your weapon hit you should be moving your entire crew to the weapon bay for repairs (while cloaked) not just your engine guy.
