Vulcan vs. defense drone II

So I had over 400 quid and get to a store just before the exit. The Vulcan is there and even the Burst Laser III. Having heard how good the Vulcan is, I buy it along with cloaking (there was also the aug. for defense drones not being able to target anything, but wanted shields... a decision I came to regret). My build was originally with ion and beam. But still had Ion II just in case something happened. I had the S bomb as well.

So on the exit, there's a pirate with three shields and a defense drone II. Vulcan is useless against it. I nealy die. Exit back to the store, get fixed up. I go back. The other ship eventually runs out of rockets so it can no longer harm me. After about half an hour the defense drone explodes. Not sure why. Then the vulcan does its magic.

So defense drone II stops missiles, ion and laser (one shot) which means the vulcan is useless against it. Without being able to bring down its shields, the beam weapons are useless (unless I had the 2 damage ones). So if you're going for a ion/beam build, how do you get past the drone? I guess there's something to be said for the burst laser III. I think I should have gotten that one. Worked well last time. But I wanted to try the vulcan.

Found a vulcan floating in space. Double vulcan FTW. Just targetted the shields every time and let it go.

Because a warm Vulcan fires so rapidly it will eventually hit a defense drone, but yeah, a Vulcan on its own sucks and has cost me a few runs. You need something alongside it to disable the enemy's systems or help to punch down the shield layers while it takes its merry time to warm up or miss all the time.

It's fired up. The defense drone will shoot it every time or the other ship will have high evade.

Which is why you combine the vulcan with another weapon, the drone can't shoot at both.

Regardless, as happened in your game, provided you have enough defence to survive the enemy attacks completely, the vulcan will eventually hit the drone itself and so allow you to take down the shields.

Yeah i go double defence drone 2 and its pretty sweet, nothing can harm you really, the shield drone is pretty ♥♥♥♥ as its slow as hell, defence drone way better!!

Vulcan combined with any other laser wins, like someone said just set everything to target shields and let rip, if you have a cloak just cloak when he rockets.

The 3rd fight with the boss is just defend your guns and shields as he will attack them and just blow him em before he gets you.

Also ive noticed if you kill all his crew before the last fight he wont have many men to invade you but some how he got an extra 2 men to portal into me when he only had 1 guy on his ship :\
