unlock ships on hard, normal or easy?
i want to beat the game in hard, but also i want to unlock all the spaceships, so what's the best idea? unlock all in lower difficulties then pass to hard, or start directly in hard in order to get use to the difficult?

Easy is in name only, normal was supposed to be a serious challenge even for seasoned players, hard is even harsher and perfectly doable if you know what you're doing and what the game can throw at you. Until then, I'd strongly suggest playing in easy. Losing repeatedly, having very little money and seeing sudden spikes of difficulty is frustrating and is what's waiting for you if you play hard.

There's absolutely no shame in unlocking ships in easy. Early flavours of various deaths are lovely and besides, the achievement marker in-game notify in which difficulty you have unlocked them. After unlocking the ships or won in easy, you can still try to get them in a harder setup and seeing it marked as such.

If you really want to dive into normal or hard, I'd suggest trying to get the Zoltan ship found in Zoltan Homeworlds as it's a relatively easy to get ship that is arguably one of the best in the game, probably top 3 or 4.

Then again, it's not like the game is almost 10 years old, you'll find plenty suggestions and guides online. There's a reason why an overwhelming majority of people suggest new players start in easy. You just need to play in hard or normal to discover why...

The ships are quite unlockable on hard, but it will definitely take you longer to do than on the lower difficulties. Up to you in how much of a hurry you are to get all the ships.

The game is already quite hard for beginners on easy.

The last has to be the Rock Homeworlds, not just any Rock sector.

B-types are unlocked on any difficulty by getting 2 of the 3 ship achievements. Some of these achievements are just nonsensical like (especially the ones, which need you to get rid of crew member or where you've to directly damage yourself or stop buying necessary equipment). Things like this need you to either play very risky or to intentionally do things to get it done easily, but they will nontheless impair your economy. You can easily compensate these disadvantages on easy, but it might lift the hard difficulty into even harder dimensions.

But you can definitely start with hard if you want. Just play the A-type, until you've beaten the boss. You might already unlock some B-types and then you can still do harder achievements on easy, which you were unable to unlock on the fly.

Ah yes, the "beat your head against a brick wall until it breaks" quest. They never told you that the brick wall is actually made out of reinforced concrete that is multi-layered in titanium and depleted uranium. :slak:

If your head isn't hard enough to break it, then just take the door which is build into the reinforced wall^^ Beating the flag ship with every a-type and b-type will also unlock it without relying on luck that much.

I'm aware. I would've had it roughly a week and a half ago if I didn't panic after accidentally sending Ruwen into the room next to him that had 2 boarders and activate his lock down. Wanted to activate it in the room he was in to prevent them from getting in. Well, you can figure what happened. Salt to that wound: Rock Homeworld next sector.

Currently on a run where my 2nd Sector was Engi Controlled and picked up the Pod. Currently in a 3rd sector which is Zoltan Controlled that leads to numerous Red Sectors. HOPING to get the Research Facility in this one and that one of the Reds is Rock Homeworld.

Besides, if I do it the alternative way, I get the feeling the Crystal Cruiser is going to have that same Unlock Quest Achievement thingy. I'm sorta trying to pick each of those off. :nora:

Well, if you unlock it through the alt way you have 2 ships that already have a Crystal crew at the start and if you unlock the type B you have 3 options that start with Crystal crew. Then you only need to find the Rock Homeworld and the portal beacon. No need to find the pod and open it.

Doesn't the quest marker not pop in Homeworld unless you have Ruwen from the pod? Last I saw changing the name of your Crystal crewmember doesn't not put the quest marker on map. Would still take a bit of luck to stumble onto the device, but would be easier vs the main method, I agree.

It now no longer pops unless you have the actual Ruwen from the pod, so the previous trick of just using Rock C and renaming the Crystal Ruwen no longer works, but you can still hit it in the Homeworlds. It just isn't marked for you.

Well, if you have LRS it isn't that much a stumble. You just try to hit all "empty" beacons.
