FTL Multiverse
Looks like a neat mod and thinking about giving it a shot at some point. Just curious about opinions and stuff. Does it seem balanced or experience any issues?

I haven't played FTL yet, even though I bought it a while ago - would anyone recommend starting for the very first time with this Multiverse Mod installed, or is it maybe better to start with the original base game while getting used to the gameplay? Also, is Multiverse available via the Steam Workshop mods, or do you get it elsewhere? :)

Even the lead developer of the mod, Kix, has strongly advised new players not to start on Multiverse.

It's a very different game, and if nothing else Multiverse will be overwhelming to a new player.

You'll hear very different opinions, because players like different things. For example, for me the base game never gets old; and I have no desire to play Multiverse, because it is exactly the opposite of what I love in FTL.

The only way you can find out for yourself is by playing the base game, and then maybe later think about trying Multiverse.

Thanks Mike :) :steamhappy::steamthumbsup: I think I will try the base game first :D

Thanks for the details. I'm super excited about it and glad to see the modders were able to open up the game a bit more. I will definitely give it a go. What about the final boss fight, any changes to that?
It's much tougher.

However, it starts out really easy, so if you are annoyed by early game disasters, the first sector is pretty much a freebie. Always hit up Sylvan (marked with "Merchant" on the map. He gives you free stuff, often really good free stuff.

Difficulty ramps up seriously after sector 5.

Note that unlike in vanilla, where boarding events are largely a joke and a nuisance at most, there are potentially seriously deadly boarders in this. Similarly, while offensive drones are mostly a joke in vanilla, there are some genuine monsters.

There are two augments you get from an AI that sends you on various fetch quests that handle these issues nicely, the Lightweight Emancipation Grid (which slowly kills all enemy boarders) and the Arcadian OmniDrone, which is mediocre at handling projectiles, missiles and hacking drones, but absolutely obliterates enemy offensive drones.

Most late game encounters make the worst vanilla encounters look tame by comparison, with enemy ships often simultaneously having multiple offensive drones, extremely aggressive boarding strategies, mind control, hacking and basically every mode of attack simultaneously.

However, the game is also full of incredibly powerful weapons and augmentations and you can have a chip that more or less obliterates anything the game can throw at you, but if you fall behind on your buildout, you will get pulverized.

Another improvement over vanilla is that it isn't completely infested with useless trash items worth only selling for scrap. In fact, there are generally variants of augmentations and the like from the original game that have been buffed into being actually useful.

A specific example is a few variants of the "Advanced FTL Navigation" augmentation, which is pretty much hot garbage in vanilla, but actually really useful in Multiverse, especially because there are numerous extended quests that require visiting multiple beacons in sequence. If these are placed awkwardly the quest is basically ruined but you can get to them all at once when you can just warp to any arbitrary beacon.
