Multiverse Beacon Eater Recruitment?!?

I finally finished getting every single ship in multiverse after about a month of playing and i just unlocked the super cruiser on page 12 with all unique characters on it... and apparently the Lanius Beacon Eater is in that recruitment list, vance is a character in the game but not on this ship so i'm assuming there was a method to recruit beacon eater in the Lanius swarm lands.

I've always just killed him both by crew killing and direct destruction, how do you recruit him normally? Is there some special trick like with jerry and his party supplies? Do i need a certain system before fighting him?

Bottom line, how do i acquire the Standard Lanius Race special character *Beacon Eater*?
His ability to drain oxygen instantly upon going into a room sounds like it'd be fun to play with on a normal ship.

I think you need to gather beacon parts when you first get the quest.

Stay behind after the first fight and collect the "Beacon Parts" augment, which can be fed to him after destroying his ship, giving both the lanius unlock and him as a crew member.
