Has an addon to work alongside of CE as well.
But CE really is the biggest fish in the pond.
Like aidenpons said though, plenty of small stuff you can combine. Weapon packs, ship mods etc.
Installing the Captain's Edition mod required some understanding of third-party mod installation processes (FTL would benefit hugely from Workshop support) but after two losses (one to the flagship pt. 3) and what seems to be shaping up to a good run on my third attempt, I would highly, highly recommend the Captain's Edition to anyone who wants a more exciting, and a more fully realized FTL experience.

CE makes the game more difficult in many ways.
Agreed, adds so much to the game.
Other than that, though, individual ship mods that just add a new ship you can use and play the normal game (or CE) are pretty good.
I like ships that are merely slight tweaks or add something simple. I like the Triquetra, for instance.
