Simo-H... on HARD
So, did anyone managed to beat the game using this weakling?
For me it's been game over at sector 6-7 for like 30 games already.
Having same scenario all over again and again: once I invest into defence I end up not having enough weapon power and if I don't invest into defence my ship turns into glass cannon which doesn't works after sector 3 on hard. And if I'm trying to keep everything upgraded eventually I just get destroyed because every fight reduces hull critically.

I haven't even touched the Stealth C yet... most ships have a redeeming feature - this doesn't and just sucks hard

Used similar weapons except my drones wasn't offensive so I had to stick with crappy burst laser 1 since I haven't found another burst laser 2 in stores. This ♥♥♥♥ is impossible without repair drone I swear

One thing you can immediately fix is that the designers, not satisfied with every other way they hosed you with this hunk of junk, also put the three crew in the worst possible places. Put the Slug in Piloting, the Rockman in weapons, and the human in Engines.

If you're not averse to start scumming and just want to get a win with it, just restart any game where you don't get Shields by the end of Sector 1. It's actually a reasonable ship if it doesn't start out in a giant hole. Also restart if you start out next to a shop because that means there's less likelihood of a shop later on in the sector when you actually have scrap.

There are a couple builds where it's also a ludicrous monster. For instance, if you get Zoltan Shields plus the Shield+ drone, it's practically indestructible. Similarly, a couple defense drones plus Shield+ plus Drone Recovery Arm, and again, it's a monster.

Most runs aren't like this and it's hands down the worst ship in the game but it's still quite winnable.

I'll second some of the other advice in this thread - make sure you get enough scrap so that you can buy shields without selling either of your two drones, because those will help you defensively for the entire game. In most cases having 2 shields + a shield drone can be as good as having 3 shields, plus you can try to time things so the shield drone blocks a missile instead.

I find that often you don't really need to upgrade your engines past 3 or 4 with this ship, at least until sector 5 or so, and the money saved doing that can be spent either on a new weapon / weapons upgrade, or a shields upgrade.

Mind control is slightly better with this ship than other ships due to the Slug, but of course Hacking is incredibly powerful as always.

Really, the early game is the worst with this - if you can climb out of it and get a strong sector 4 or 5 then sectors 6 and 7 shouldn't be any worse with this ship than any other ship.

Another mild nuisance about this ship is naming the worst, most pathetic ship in the game after the greatest sniper ever.

Are you talking about that Finland war veteran? Never noticed that before. Speaking of worst ship, it's still better than engi B which is painfu even on Normal

Perversely, Engi B is actually not as bad comparatively on Hard literally BECAUSE of all the garbage it comes with, which amounts to free scrap.

I've done several no-shield no-cloak runs on it, on hard (with and without CE) . You just need to "git gud", I suppose.

Speaking of Engi B. I just lost game at Exit beacon on 1st sector with burst laser 2, Defence drone 1, combat drone 1, all the start drones, weapons and augmentations, level 2 shields and stun bomb. Just because I looked for survivors isntead of scrapping ship. ♥♥♥♥ this game, ♥♥♥♥ this ship and ♥♥♥♥ me

Why would you make a 50/50 choice where if you lose you instantly die? There are a limited number of crew killing events. Don't do them with only one crew!

In OP's defense, there's a lot of crew-risk events in the game and it takes a while to memorize them all, which isn't fun. Probably one of the few design flaws in the game.
