Crystal cruiser luck?
How long did it take you to unlock it?

I can't get the right systems to show no matter what i do.
And i often get the stasis pod right before the last sector, or 2 sectors in a row, but then there's no rock homeworlds after that.

Is there an easier way to do this?

There are three way to unlock the Crystal Cruiser.
First is to do the whole quest, ie get the stasis pod, revive the crystal, find the homeworlds through the rock's own, find the ship.
Second is to do just the end quest by scouting the rock homeworlds with the Rock C (which has a crystal member to begin with)
Third is to win once with all ships A&B excluding Laniuses (that would be 16 victories), it can be done in easy.

I know that I did it once with the second way and another time with the third. Third is a different sort of bummer but it's still fine cause you're playing the game as many ships anyway. Second is only demandind slightly less luck, but still a bit of it.

Oh nice! I thought the only way to unlock the ship is by stumbling on the quest!
I think i already unlocked Rock C layout.
I'll try my next run with that ship.

And if anything else fails, as you said, victories with 16 ships is fine, i'm playing the game anyway. :steamhappy:

Lol, just this run now. I finally get the stasis pod. I get it opened by Zoltan scientists and lo and behold - NO ROCK HOMEWORLDS AGAIN!!! :steammocking:

I'll sooner unlock that ship by winning 16 times than this quest having all 3 super specific requirements randomly appear in a super specific order...

Thank god all other ships and layouts are far easier to unlock.

Yeah, this was my luck.
I tried many times to get it using the Rock A and even went to the point of scum restarting to get the "best" starting events. In the process looking for the pod I unlocked the Rock C. I had gotten the crystal crew member but there was no rock home worlds. Then I got bored decided to try a run on the Rock C and got lucky. I found the home world and stumbled upon the gate way.
If you have gotten frustrated with finding the pod, I would totally recommend going a few runs on the Rock C. There are several good guides on how to use it to get the Crystal Cruiser floating about steam.
Good Luck

Good Luck

I unlocked it with a Rock C ship today!

And i didn't even had to do multiple attempts. Rock homeworlds showed up in the first run.

Though up until the very last jump node it seemed that missed the gateway. But the jump point before the sector jump had it and i got transported to the secret crystal sector.

The quest marker was just one jump from the starting position and i finally got the Crystal cruiser! Now to unlock layout
B and i will have unlocked every ship. :steamhappy:

Well done!
Maybe you're going to find the Crystal A a little bit underwhelming. It's not a bad ship but it's certainly not one of the better ones and it can feel a little bit frustrating to have spend lots of time unlocking it, only to get just an above average vessel (it has some good things but at least two pretty big issues in layout an armament). Crystal B however is just King of Cheese it's absurd, it isn't even that hard to unlock but you'll probably need a couple of runs.

Yeah that's the plan. :steamhappy:
Crystal A is kind od meh, you're absolutely right there. But Crystal B comes with a 4 man teleport and bunch of other goodies. From what i can remember.

Do ylu know of other strategies with Crystal B? Why did you call it King of cheese? :steammocking: Is there a trick to that ship?

Well, Crystal B is a fairly straightforward boarding ship. The thing is it takes boarding and removes basically all of the strategical problems associated with it (enemy has medbay/clonebay, large crew, how do you defend during boarding). It's "cheese" in the sense that it's almost authorized cheating, true too because you will never find an enemy able to do the same to you. Oh and also it starts with a useless augment you can sell for 40 scrap, as if it was needed or anything. And then it starts with two additional systems.

The Lanius B is pretty up there too in this department, but the Crystal B just takes the crown because of how easier and safer it is.
The layout of the Crystal B isn't very good though, it's serviceable but there are some pretty nasty weakness.

Cool! Well, i unlocked one achievement on Crystal A. I found a low level drone that i got to 1 HP, then i disabled my shields and let him hit me until a shard flew off and destroyed the drone lol. :steammocking:

Now i'm trying to do one more. The last run ended before i could do them. I have to either fight and destroy enough rock ships, or trap 4 crew with lockdown. But i didn't find any 4 man boarders, nor did i find enough rock ships last time. :steammocking:

Oh well, there's always another run, that's the charm of roguelikes. :steamhappy:

It shouldn't be too long to unlock it now, then i'll see how it handles. :steamhappy:

EDIT: LOL, and just as i wrote this, 4 man crew boarded my ship and i unlocked the B layout haha. I'm gonna end this run now and start a new one with B.
