So if you can trigger the surrender event, you get another shot at a good drop like a weapon or augment, even if you'll usually turn it down and just kill them anyway.
And so you don't accidentally blow yourself up trying this, because it cuts it really close to like 1-3 hull sometimes, make sure you can see the entire enemy ship so there aren't any fires in system rooms about to burn out the last hull, and make sure the enemy is helpless and can't knock out your teleporter, and that your teleporter is charged so you can pull out if any of the above happens.
