Does ship health affect salvage?
Let's say I've killed most of the crew on the enemy ship with fire bombs. There's one enemy crewman left with low health, and the fires got extinguished in the vacuum they caused. I can either kill the last of the enemy crew with another fire bomb, or I can shoot them with a heavy laser. Of course, the laser will do 2 damage to the ship's hull, which it can survive. But would its loot decrease from its health dropping 2 pips, or no?

Basically, does damaging enemy ships before killing off the crew decrease your loot, scrap or otherwise?

No, it doesn't!

If anything, you want to exploit the possibilities of low hull. Sometimes at low hull they'll make a surrender offer. This is usually weaker than what you stand to get if you destroy the ship or kill the crew, but sometimes, you'll get a really good one.

So if you can trigger the surrender event, you get another shot at a good drop like a weapon or augment, even if you'll usually turn it down and just kill them anyway.

And so you don't accidentally blow yourself up trying this, because it cuts it really close to like 1-3 hull sometimes, make sure you can see the entire enemy ship so there aren't any fires in system rooms about to burn out the last hull, and make sure the enemy is helpless and can't knock out your teleporter, and that your teleporter is charged so you can pull out if any of the above happens.
