Need tips for the Rock quest

The rock ship is the last one I need, but I'm having terrible luck finding the rock homeworlds. I'm trying to make dedicated runs to find it, what ship and strategy works well?

If I understand correctly, rock homewords is a hostile sector for sector 5 and beyond. I need a ship capable of dealing with a lot of fire while also disableing the enemy weapons without killing it.

Lanius ship vents well, but I have to hope I find an ion weapon to disable the rock ship. Zoltan ship has 2 ion blast but the venting is just ok and I don't think the crew can deal with fire very well.

The only time I have ever encountered the rock quest was the other day, but I had the crystal quest active and ignored them to make a b-line to the crystal ship. I got it so I think I made the right choice there.

Almost forgot, I'm terrible with the slug ship. I have been trying to double down on either finding the quest with that or winning with it but I keep getting very quickly murdered with that ship.

I think the Rock ship quest is the easiest in the game, bar the Engi cruiser which is just getting the sector 5. The idea of the challenge is to try and survive long enough near a sun so your opponent can jump away, but since the Rock homeworlds are later on in the game, chances are the ship will have good engines and they'll be gone after a solar flare or two.

Finding them is the trickeist part, yeah, so just aim towards red sectors and you should come across the quest. If you really want to prepare, cloaking should basically guarantee you'll get out safely, but also just having people on your engines/piloting in game it gets hit will also work.
