death after surrender
i started playing recently, and there was a couple of time where the ennemy surrendered and i accepted for those sweet missiles, but i was still hit in the butt seconds later by a missile that had been sent just before and i did get hit.

so if i can get hit... can the opposing ship be too ? therefore is it possible that after a combat ends the opposing ship still explode ? should that happen do you get some scraps ?

very recently i fought a ship who surrendered, but had an out-of-control fire on board, even after the battle ended it still kept losing life and systems every now and then. eventually most systems were damaged or destroyed, including the O2 recycler. i waited for a while to see if it would blow up, but nothing happened.

i assumed the fire stopped do to lack of oxygen, but then the crew should have died eventually, no ?

did a kill after surrender happen to anyone ?

Surrendered enemy ships can explode if fires deal enough damage to enemy systems to eat away the last few hull points(as you may know, any time a system is totally destroyed, 1 hull point is also lost), and crew can naturally die from environmental damage(oxygen loss/fire), but it won't change anything. If the ship explodes, the 'target window' will disappear as it normally would, but no further text or prompts will show up.

Your shots auto-miss once the enemy surrenders(even beams in mid-swipe), but enemy shots don't.

If you are not at a beacon with an environmental hazard, your FTL will be charged instantaneously after the surrender. So, if there are any enemy shots still incoming just jump away before they hit you.

Yep! And it's absolute BS! You could unload your entire arsenal at an enemy ship that has 1hp, and if you accept their surrender, that whole arsenal will bounce harmlessly off their hull.
At the same time, every last weapon that THEY fired will hit your ship, if you don't evade it, and potentially destroy you.

This happened to me today, ironically. I had a couple hp's left when I accepted their surrender, and the last few shots they made connected with my ship, a good few seconds later, and ended my game. Needless to say, when things like that happen, you feel severely cheesed by the game.

I never realized this. It's still BS cheese, but this could be a workaround.

Don't forget to teleport any crew you still have onboard. Also lol if your teleporter is wrecked.

I never accept surrender unless they're offering a weapon or something. Or I'm out of fuel and they conveniently offer that. I figure if they wanted to live they'd have offered me better than I'd get by just murdering them.

Yeah you'd figure huh? Lol. Even though it's bits and bites, I still find myself saying, are you kidding dumbass! I'll get way more from scrapping you!

There are a few things I consider when they're offering surrender.. First I tally up the costs. Fuel costs 3. Missiles cost 6. Drone Parts cost 8.. Then I consider what I'm using. If I'm not using Drone Parts, I'll gladly trade up the opportunity to get the more, cheaper, missiles, or whatever I need at the time. Lastly I decide if it's in my best interest, such as the last game when I was cheesed lol.

You should almost always take surrender if they offer you item.
Also there are events with double rewards, like bribing pirate, even though you get a lot missile, usually/especially at early sectors you need that scrap, so blast them anyway.

thanks for your answers guys !

in the meantime i had the situation where i fought a small craft in an asteroid field, i took out their shields to get some asteroid help.
at some point they surrendered, and eventually died a rocky death, but the game didn't offer any scrap, that was disappointing.

There used to be a bug/exploit that let you double-dip like that, but I believe it was fixed an update or two ago.

EDIT: I'm pretty sure you could use Lanius boarders(draining Oxygen) to consistently kill post-surrender ship crews that didn't have a functioning Med Bay on hand, so it's probably for the best.
