if my crew truly survived, then they did so by killing all the enemies, meaning they should've been able to jump back with the enemies ship to me to continue their mission.
if they're willing to die for me by boarding an enemy ship that's completely engulfed in flames, they should be willing to return to me when they get the chance if they jsut happen to stay on an enemy ship.
Lure the crew out of piloting or break piloting and then fight with your crew there, so they can't repair it.
Or send one or more of your boarders to shields. Quite often this will cause the guy to leave the cockpit. Do NOT fight in the cockpit if the ship is trying to escape, as all that will do is guarantee that there's a crewmember in there, and unlike other systems, this doesn't take away the manning bonus.
The enemy FTL doesn't charge like the player ship. It's on a strict timer and as long as it has even one bar in engines and cockpit, and someone's in the cockpit, even if they're fighting, the countdown continues.
You usually only run into the cockpit issue with 4+ crew, because otherwise you can lure them away.
problem i had was with ships without a med bay: the injured people would flee to the cockpit, charging it. so i can't lure them away, and fighting in the cockpit to kill them is, as you said, problematic.
but what about events where your crewmembers die? will they be cloned in the clone tank? since i've seen first-hand how the giant space spiders shred them to pieces. i don't think they could have survived that :D
Clone bay will clone a crew member killed by giant alien spiders.
Depends on event, you can't clone a member that has a deadly disease or got lost into space while doing EVA. Plainly killed members can be revived, including by those spiders.
If you've played much - you know most event outcomes.
