Lol dude. It can be done without taking any damage. I've even had victory with all 28 ships in a row without any losses while unlocking them as I go. On normal difficulty though. Busy doing that on hard mode at the moment.

The beam weapon room is top-right.

The world record winstreak on hard is something like 81 wins. It comes down to knowing how to manage scrap, micro management skills, and using cloaking + hacking effectively. Level 3 hacking can make even some of the crappiest setups viable since it will drain all 4 shields.

@OP: 2nd stage drones only last for about ~8 seconds, if you grab a shield recharge booster along the way and have full skill shield crew on the station you take significantly less damage from the combat drones and it'll make the beam drones hit almost not at all because they don't pierce shields. Level 2 cloaking will avoid it entirely with 4 engine power and skilled pilot + engines crew (100% dodge chance for only 7 power for 10 seconds, and you don't need the 100% evasion after doding the first shots; the drones stop firing). You get a "power surge detected" warning about 5 seconds before it starts, which is enough time to put all of your power into shields and engines if you don't have cloaking to help you that run.

I love when these threads pop up. They're like clockwork.

So utilizing the game's engine the way the developers designed but in a clever way they didn't anticipate...is cheating now.

Dude, people like you pop up in these forums all the time. I'm not a good FTL player but the really really great ones go on streaks all the freaking time. Just go on YouTube and look it up. There are ways to bypass all of those limitations for the clever player.

Twinge did that twice. I think lethalfrag also. It is hardly unheard of. Also DolphinChemist did it and is, I think, working on a Hard No Pause win streak currently. I'm not sure how that's going.

So you're calling BS on stuff people have done live, on stream, multiple times.

Here, don't believe me, believe your lying eyes instead.

There's just one of them. You can find the rest on his channel.

OP, the game is difficult. If you lost on the second boss wave, it is because you didn't prepare for the problems that the boss gives you during that wave. The game was meant to be played many many many many many many times. Part of the process of the game is to play through, lose, figure out why you lost, try again with new information and new preparation. I am a terrible FTL player, and I've beaten it a time or two. It isn't just possible for good players to easily go on winning streaks, it's very likely. Calling good players cheaters does not help your case, and will actually alienate you from any further help from the talented players here.

or you could... like... take a joke. Instead of being all serious about me ranting due to RNG gods not using any lube.

And that rant is getting greeted by the equivalent of people bragging about how "easy" the game is..... a far cry from your definition of "Help.

I could honestly care less though.

From the braggin done here, and the actual "Help" that I tracked down myself, I've come to the conclusion that every run requires me to have to chase down 2 very specific upgrades to be considered a serious run. Raw military power doesn't work, no matter how much you stack on... without cloak, your screwed. If you get cloak and hacking.... the game suddenly becomes no challenge except for the RNG involved with having the stores pop up the correct items at a convenient time.

What other help would I even need at this point? Other than.... where's this Captains edition I've read about that randomizes things a bit more. Maybe more randomization will make it less reliant on funneling me down a specific path to attain victory.

Because I'll be honest. Before this rant, and subsequent bragging that you call help. I gravitate away from cloaking, hacking, and boarding. It's just not my playstyle.....

I made an awesome warmachine that was nearly unbeatable, but because it was missing 2 out of those 3 things.... it's basically going to hit a brick wall at some point. I have a problem with this. I'm not a cow to be herded.

Getting cloaking/Hacking/boarding makes the boss fight easier but it is not required.

You mention RNG and losing crew to events. If you learn what events are more risky you can avoid them (giant alien spiders are no joke) or try to get weapons/upgrades that unlock blue options. Engi crew member, boarding drone, rock crew member etc. all guarantee certain outcomes for some events. Making decisions and understanding the chances you take are key.

Another straightforward tip is to try and visit as many beacons as possible in a sector before moving to next sector. Since each sector is progressively harder you want to maximize your rewards before advancing.

Dealing with boarders.. you can upgrade your doors to blast doors, locking the enemy in specific rooms. Once you have them trapped you can drain the oxygen and suffocate them. If you don’t have a chance to upgrade doors, putting a crewmember in the door room will give you the perk as well. Once you get the hang of micro managing doors on your ship you should rarely die to boarders.

Along with all of these other tips, make sure you pause frequently to check your ship, enemy ship, time your shots, move crew around. Truly mastering the game and beating the game takes precise control.

If you have the time, lethalfrag has an excellent beginners guide to the hand that goes into more complete detail

Sorry if link doesn’t work I’m on mobile.

Best of luck!! I hope you keep trying, this game is wonderful and I want you to feel the satisfaction of that first win

Another thing to keep in mind is playtime. It took me 40 hours before I got my first win, and probably another 30 or so before I felt I was an advanced player. The guide video should negate some of the trial and error for you though

They need to start supplying free butthurt cream with FTL, seriously.
Bellomy Feb 1, 2018 @ 2:50pm
You are quite wrong. I am pretty sure I have never once used hacking to beat the flagship. And cloaking is great but not required. Many different layouts can work.
Axz Feb 1, 2018 @ 7:01pm
There are a 1,000,037 ways to deal with the boss:

1) Teleport your crew into the missle launchers, on easy and normal they are seperated from the rest of the ship so when they are taken out they can't be repaired for the rest of the fight. With 4 shields and at least 40% evasion the last boss is gimped without its missles.

2) Cloaking also gimps the boss, if for whatever reason you can't take out the missles, use your cloaking just as you see the boss fire its missles and they'll all miss you, your shields and evasion should be enough to deal with the lasers, ion blasts and halberd beam. Also in round 2 and 3 use your cloaking just as you see the warning flash to dodge the drones and lasers.

3) Make sure by the time you are at sector 8 you have good enough weapons to deal with 4 shields. There are lots of different ways of doing it but I'd say mass burst lasers are the easiest. Burst laser mk 2s fire 3 lasers every 12 sec's for only 2 energy, just 2 of these (relatively) cheap weapons could (slowly) take down the last boss needing only the power that some ships start with.

4) Find and farm a terrible enemy (far easier to do in the early sectors where enemies have less missles), if you have 3 shields and find an enemy that can only shoot 2 lasers don't kill it, just let it keep firing lasers at you. If it hits you'll get shielding xp and if it misses you'll get piloting / engeneeiring xp, but either way it cannot damage you in anyway so just let it raises your skills. It's the same with weapons, if you find an enemy that can't harm you that only has 1 shield fire 1 laser at it then stop, every time you fire a weapon you gain weapon xp. By fully manning and leveling your crew you get +20% evasion, +20% faster weapon charge and +30% faster shield charge, definatly not to be sneered at.

5) Get some good augments ready for the final boss, you can't always find what you want but you should be able to find some shield rechargers and weapon chargers.

There are also another 1,000,032 ways, but I'm tired, just trust me.

If you want an easy run take the Kestrel B, it starts with 4 crew and already has 4 weapon energy. It starts with 4 simple lasers, they each cost 1 power and fire 1 shot every 10 seconds, these weapons alone will carry you to sector 4 on hard. It has enough crew to man every station so you can start training them right away and isn't reliant on ammo' or drone parts.

OP complains game is too difficult. People come on and show the OP is wrong and give tips on how to improve with video links as well.

After all of this the OP comes back on and claims it is a joke and instead complains about people giving tips and disproving thier claim..... Definatly a troll thread.
