Bit of exploratory gameplay, pseudo-turn-based combat involving weapons management as well as crew location and energy management, CYOA-like events with added randomness, roguelike-like elements... that's a very specific combination. You'd have trouble finding a similar game based on combat system alone, add the rest and the game becomes pretty damn unique.
There was a game called Space Rogue which attempted to copy it but apparently wasn't very good. Also I hear Convoy is somewhat similar though not quite the same.
Haven't really been following game news or browsing games these past few years. There might be many of them I've never even heard about.
the hting is, i love how yo ucan do ftl in a window, and just step away, even if its mid turn, not in special zones ofcourse, but still, it has a high walk away value lets say haha.
its hard ot get that in other games that i truly love. they usually are not trunbased and have the depth, or are turnbased and lack depth, sadly.
The levels are procedurally randomly generated and the items are randomly selected. It has an ironman mode.

you try survive and get to space from hostile planet
but... the problem is, i have a 20 + pound cat. he loves to lie infront of my keyboard and be my best friend. now....
thats fun and all, and i love that beast to death, its really hard for me to play games ( sometimes) that use the keyboard.
and for those situations its great to have a turnbased/realtime mixed game.
ive tried alot i must admit, alot of normal turnbased too, but liek i said earlyer, osmehow theyre not as interesting, or in depth mechanics wise as ftl.
so i was wondering that perhaps i must have missed some. :)
A lot of desks come with one of these but it's easy enough to install one yourself.
nah im okay, but i was just clarifying some thigns and my motivation why i need afk-ish turn based games where i can walk away in a instant. like ftl, could be that there was a clone i didnt know about right ? :) or osme other options that other people enjoyed after playing this.
on the things in my keyboard yo udont wanna know what i got in my keyboard haha.
its a large colelction of ash cathairs, food residue, and sometimes the occasional softdrink or beer/booze drips.
haha, if to be shielded for that you owuld need like a blast shield haha.
thanks guys.
For OP, maybe if you need "pause" games, then Baldurs gate will be it, or i recommend some 4x games like Warlock Master of Arcane is decent.

You have a ship, crew with different abilities, equipment, the combat is pseudo-turn-based, you can target different parts of the enemy ship, there is boarding, stronger enemies start attacking you if you spend too long in an area... someone took the FTL recipe and painted it over with a pirate/lovecraft theme.
do you guys own the game ? it looks very interesting, but tbh im kinda put off by the low score.
