engi virus

so ive had this encounter 4 times in my run and the two sectors i have been to have been engi yet still 4 encounters in one run anyway they even says if you chose to attempt to get rid of it and failed, anyway it says all attempts have failed but your crew has managed to lock the virus in the weapons system yet the systems affected are the engine and shields

The virus isn't harmful to the systems, your captain is the one who weakens them with their attempts to purge the code.

Straight up attacking the ship is strictly a superior option here, there's no chance for another positive outcome than a fight without a blue option.

if i remember correctly the blue options are;

Engi - if you win the fight that engi gains all maxed skills

Lanius - gain scrap + augment, no fight

Hacking - gain rewards based on the level of hack, including an augment at higher levels

Lv3 hacking is the best reward, I think. Still, you may want to take the engi option instead to gain the fully maxed engi, if your crew roster has any training holes in it.

Training repair isn't quite that easy though.

Not easy, but can easily be abused, like using bombs on your own ship, letting enemies fire bombs, mindcontrol an enemy boarder after they weaken the systems enough, and couple others.

I find training routines to be more tedious than fun. Virus is a pretty good reward.

But 20% increased repair speed is hardly as useful as 20% weapon charge time or +10 evasion.
