Mind Control + Teleporting = Lynching
So my friend and I were messing around while doing a boarding run, and during the boss fight we discovered that we could mind control an enemy crew member and then use our teleporter to recall him to our ship since the game recognized him as a "friendly". The new crew member quickly went and guarded the O2 unit until he remembered his xenophobic ways and begin trying to kill my group again. So I did what any reasonable federation captain would do and ordered my men to go kill him.

After laughing hysterically we decided that it was going to be a new part of how we handled part one of the boss fight. Mind controlling every member of the Flag Ship crew (aside the captain in order to prevent the advanced AI from taking over), and kill their crew by TP'ing them onto our own ship so they wouldn't try to board us during phase 3.

Has anyone else had the pleasure of getting to try this out? :ftlhuman:

Yup. This is a standard [& fun!] tactic that has been around since the AE update was released.

Most effective if you lack decent boarding crew // have a predominantly engi &/or zoltan crew // cannot offline thier medbay.

4 man teleporter + 4 mantisses + hacking flagships shields + teleporting into shield room = alot of dead rebels.

The rebels can't escape to the medbay fast enough before being killed by the mantisses XD

Try doing this: Mind Control + Healing Burst
It's by no means a knockout strategy, but if timed right you can have that one guy take out the entire crew.

In terms of evil fun, however, nothing beats Hacking the enemy med bay, deactivating the hacking drone, then waiting for their hapless guys to go in for a quick "heal"....

I never understood why you'd buy Mind Control over Hacking.

Hacking is the boarding weapon. Board and hack the medbay. Bam, two crew dead. Send your guys out and kill two more. Bam, now four dead. Any leftovers? Your hack should recharge soon so lure them back in! Bam, six crew dead.

Yeah, my default load out is drone bay, teleporting and hacking. Hacking it just too good to not pick over other things. Especially since i focus more on boarding so my weapons are underwhelming and that's when hacking also comes in handy.

Some ships start with MC, you cannot sell / replace main systems, and there is no guarantee that any of the shops you encounter will stock hacking modules... so, make best use of what you do have.

Last random ship run I did was in the engi A: not a single shop from sector 1-7 had a hacking module for sale. Almost bought a MC in sector 7, but decided to save the scrap.

Luckily, the elusive sector 8 shop was right next to the entrance & had a hack for sale. Hooray!

MC can't be shot down, and doesn't cost you drone parts to use.
Not saying one is better than the other; both have their advantages.

Yeah, one disadvantage of MC is auto-scouts, and i really prefer to have hacking to deplete their shield, it's somewhat easier to deal with populated ships with proper doors between rooms.

Hacking can't be shot down too if you use the right trick
and I agree with you,both have their advantages

so it's a matter of taste
