Question about killing entire enemy crew
Hello, I am new to the game and I learn and adapt much better every time I restart.

I love the idea that we can kill the entire crew especially with fire and invasion and we probably get more resources from the ship not destroyed, but by how much?

As in early sectors, we often get 15-20 metal by destroying the ships, it's almost the same as killing the crew and the ship isn't wrecked.

Are the chances higher to get add-ons and weapons than destroying the ship?

Rewards for boarding used to be higher before AE, but i still like boarding.

I see. Thank you. And yes, boarding is really fun.

Crew killing gives a 100% chance of drone/weapon/crew/sector scan in select events, like smuggler staying away from beacons, rebel transport ship. There's that, also a slight increase in resuorces and higher rate of item drops, but most importantly, uncommon occurences where you completely empty their fuel tank. Running out of fuel suddenly isn't problem anymore.

Aaaaaaactually a lot of results from killing crew (free drone, free weapon, free crew) give you absolutely 0 fuel - whereas just blowing them up repeatedly yields 1-3 fuel. You can run out of fuel if you've consistently boarded but it is rare.

On the other hand, the next ship that comes to your distress beacon you will immediately be able to board and then killing them always grants a good deal of fuel.

And yep, boarding = more stuff per fight, really. Also gives you a couple of text-options.

This is why if you're lean on fuel it can be worth damaging a ship you're boarding to trigger a surrender event. Getting a high amount of fuel can be worth foregoing a crew kill. (I tend to get concerned when fuel dips much below 10.)

boarding is fun unless you forget to blow up their medbay... then you'll just have to play cat and mouse :P
