Weird slow-down problem?

The game played fine a month ago but when I laod it up now, every time something happens the game freezes for maybe 10 seconds and it's making the game impossible to play. I've verified integrety of the files, just reinstalled and fiddled with the in game graphics settings. Anyone know what might be causing this?

**Edit** Resolved thanks to PeferG17, it was indeed Avast's new game component. Once I removed it and restarted it began working perfectly. Avast is about to go into the garbage bin if it keeps this up!

I have no idea but I have the same damn problem, every time I finish a dialog screen or a jump the game hangs for 5 to 10 seconds.
I've tried Verifying, reinstalling, deleting my profile, deleting the gaming component from Avast (found a thread saying that would work, it didn't) I even "aquired" a GOG copy and it still hangs.
Something is seriously wrong with it on Windows 7

CORRECTION! Avast was the problem, you have to restart after uninstalling the game component

Uninstall windows and suddenly no more lag. Linux version works fine.

I wish we could have narrowed down the reason for the error, but a solution nevertheless! Congratulations and I hope you enjoy your game!

Third part software (av programs) messing up. Use comodo internet security, it doesn't lag the game.

It's Avast's new feature, Game Mode. If you have Avast Antivirus, pull up your Avast menu, go to Performance ----> game mode. Disable it for FTL, problem solved. Odd how it screws with a simple little game like FTL but not others. Well, none that I've seen so far.

I had similar issue. It was caused by using ALT+TAB while having chrome browser open ... I closed the game, chrome and everything else. After that I opened chrome then FTL and NEVER used ALT+TAB druing the game.
