Can you just start fresh on this season or ...
... do you have to import a save from the previous one?

I'm not a fan of importing saves as there are always issues, which is why DLC form is better than separate game. Unless you have something in place like in Fetish Locator where you have a questioner at the start and pick the major choices you did from the previous game. and go from there. Not only is that super useful in general i't also great for doing certain achievements.

You don't have to but some parts of your game play might be different depending on how you ended the last season of your game play.
