Black Screen After Intro - NVidia
This game was on sale the other day for 15 bucks. It's been on my wishlist for quite a while now, so I was initially pleased.

Downloaded, ran the game, got through the various publisher/developer logos, played the Oscorp introduction "film" -- then went to a black screen, no menus, no cursor, nothing. Had to Alt+F4 the window to get back to desktop.

I've tried various resolutions, video settings, the last three video drivers, same story every single time. Running an Nvidia GTX570 -- not exactly next-gen, but easily runs, and runs well, oh I don't know, every other game I own.

One promising lead from various forums was that the current Win 7 DirectX 10 and 11 have only the barest 9.0c components for compatability, so many older 9.0c games have difficulty. Manually installed the Microsoft 9.0c runtimes ... no change.

After trying to get a game to run for a full hour, it's no longer worth the 15 bucks I paid for it, so I just write it off as a lesson learned, and a "Hey, maybe don't buy so many Steam games." (To be fair, I've only encountered this with 4 games out of a library of 80+. That's not bad, but it's still damn annoying when money just gets wasted).

Yeah, I spent yet *another* hour today trying new tips and tricks scraped from the internet -- must be a glutton for punishment. Registry hacks, video card workarounds, permission changes, installation and reinstallation of archaic frameworks ... it's just ridiculous at this point.

Total rubbish. This one game has cost you numerous future sales, Steam.

(Yes, yes, I know they don't care. But they should.)

It happened to me too at first with my 670, but after a few times of it happening the game ran smoothly and was glad I bought it. It will happen more times through out playing so just don't think to much of it, like I did. It really is worth the hassle in my opinion.

Hiya Zanco,

Thanks. So, are you saying you would just let it sit on the black screen until it did something, or that you would keep starting-closing-restarting until it finally went into the game after the Oscorp intro?

I feel like I've restarted like up to 10-12 times in a sitting, but if that's what it takes...
