It´s woke. A DEI consulting firm named "Hit Detection LLC" had a big hand with a lot of changes and decisions. Including; character designs, cutscenes, dialogues and text.

the only thing that people are calling 'woke' is Maria's design, from what they say. A lot of what people claim is 'woke' isn't actually 'woke.' For some reason, there are many people who are hating on the game to a ridiculous extent. It's like those who say that the sick are 'woke' now. If you compare the designs from the original to this one, they are the same.

I have not played the game yet so maybe this is intentional and there is some kind of story element to this, I don't know.

Beat the game, and loved it. Absolutely nothing is "woke" about the game. I'm sure they received consultation related to mental health and adjacent things to make them accurate. But people with nothing better to do decided to run with that.

Oh, and get upset about Maria's new outfit not looking like a risque dancer from a 90's music video like the OG one. New one is much more fitting and believable IMO.

The game: makes you beat on oversexualized women-looking monsters all game, the only male-looking monster is a rapist abusing the other monsters, all female characters are either prostitutes or rape victims, the game couldn't be more women-hate and sexist ( and I haven't finished it yet so there's probably more )

Why would you even need consultation on a cult classic regarding anything story,character,lore-wise?

Its almost as absurd as getting consultation from some 3rd party before translating a book to a another language.
"We should probably change this part because the french are not ready for a perfect translation about how freedom works in the US in this fictional book".
Something like this would be equally as absurd.

This is a story that already has been written years ago with huge success taking place in some otherworldly realm were you beat up monsters.
Why should they have to conform to some current mainstream viewpoint about what mental health is supposed to look like?

After completing my first run, I saw absolutely nothing that could be considered "woke", only minor deviations from the original game. Hell, Maria's "original" costume is still in the game, not used on the character itself, but rather smartly as memorabilia.

If there's any complaint I have about the game, it's some of the voice acting feels very flat and phoned in.
