Who is galloping around the yard in prison?

I know that there is no specific mob and it's just the sound being played, but according to the lore, who is it? Why are we hearing this? I'm sorry if someone has already answered this question, I'm just very interested and I haven't seen such topics.

The yard is where the gallows are located, where prisoners are hung for execution. When i used to play the original, it used to think the horse galloping sounds was a nod to drawing and quartering, another form of punishment around the same time period that used horses.

There is no concrete answer. It was also in the original, it's just there to make you feel uneasy. It is a genious idea, though.

It's one of the most mysterious room in the game. As far as i remember, data miners revealed are just sounds to make you uneasy. The whisper in the appartment is also one of them however, those are RNG (seed RNG).

I don't know if they changed the signification of it in the remake though.

There is hardly anything literal in this game...

There is no canon. It's creepy ambiance just leading up to finding the horseshoe (in the original at least).

My thoughts were quartering as well.

Horses were sometimes used in hangings. The condemned would sit on a horse.
