Black screen on main menu

I'm at my wit's end trying to get this game to run! 2 days of playing around with settings and all I get is a black screen at the main menu.

I see the konami logo, warnings and all that good stuff right away, but the second the logo and pisser comes into view, the screen cuts to black. Doesn't seem to be a crash, cuz the menu sounds play when I move the joystick, but I'm just stuck on this black main menu. I've been patient and let it sit for 20 ish min, thinking it just needed to do some shader BS or whatever. Still hear sounds when I move the joystick, but no menu. It's like my monitor is off. Alt f4 doesn't close the game for whatever reason, I keep having to hard reset my comp. Graphics drivers, Windows, DirectX are fully updated, steam overlay's off, I've tried the -dx11 thing in settings, win7 and 8 compatibility modes, admin enabled, nothing changes this issue. I just dunno what else to do at this point.

I downloaded this mod that removes the konami/bloober logo vids a bit ago, and somehow after that I was able to play for a bit and get into town. Ran fine on my crap rig. I guess I should've played it in one sitting, cuz I closed and reopened the game after that to test it, and it's back to the black right when the urinal appears on screen.

Plz help if anyone's having this issue or any idea how I can actually play this lovely "wOkE!!" game. :c been looking forward to it forever, and it's very frustrating trying to find any info for this issue. Thanks. <3

I usually have this issue because when I unplug my laptop from its charger the screen refresh rate goes down to 60Hz. So I have to set it back up to 100Hz and it works for some reason. I really don't understand why, but maybe give that a try?

I found a trick to get it open without the black screen!! I've got run as admin enabled, win8 compatibility, and -dx11 in steam launch settings. Once I got the black screen, I hit alt-enter and wait a sec, or mash it a few times, that's always fun. But point is the screen popped up properly! then I went to settings and turned fullscreen to borderless. Closed the game, and it opened fine again, no black screen once the main menu shows up. :) hope this works for you and that you or anyone else with this issue sees this.
