playing the original enhanced edition
the original game is over 20 years old.
my gaming laptop is i7 14th gen and rtx 4060, 16gb ram
why is it when playing the enhanced edition of the original game, that my fans are going crazy?
even louder when playing modern games released today...

does anyoen else have this problem playing the original SH2 - loud fans?
is there a setting or something i can tweak?

i have set my laptop such that playing modern games like re4 remake doesnt produce much fan noise
thanks

If you think it's just fans, you can install MSI afterburner to check the temperatures during gameplay, check what are optimal temperatures(on the Internet) and see what's yours, if temperature is too high compared to RE4 Remake, that could mean that optimization is simply bad.

I'll say something that many might disagree. However, when I play the original, I like to play the vanilla PS2 version 1.0 (not the director cut). I find the enhanced edition unnecessary (at least last time I checked it, 4 years ago). Game runs beautiful with all the performance and quality features simple emulators have nowadays. The PC version of SH is terrible.

I have played the original with enhanced mod maybe 30 minutes, and didn't notice anything strange. But I have a good midtower case with a proper ventilation.
Install MSI afterburner and monitor your laptop under load (in games).
You should know how your system behaves - that way you will know what steps are needed - dust cleanup, thermal paste change, fans curve setup etc.

I guess it squezees everything out from a single core, when modern games load every core almost evenly. It gives higher temperature of you CPU no matter the whole CPU load is bigger.
But please please please. Stop complaining on software. Your hardware should be stable on any load. I so much hate such winners.

No, it is usually managed by the game engine.

Nope. It's Windows thing, the way it reports/handles thermal sensor data, with obviously drivers on top. I have old PC configuration and even older laptop - and it runs smooth there, both on Windows 7 and Linux.

So why is modern CPUs boast constantly with their single core performance on every test every tech website/blogger posts? Why modern CPUs might even consider struggling with game from 2002 (PC port of original was released in 2002, if I'm not mistaken)?

Ps2 Emulators can’t read the pressure sensitive buttons so you are literally missing like half the melee move set. That by default is an inferior experience. Enhanced Edition wins

It's been a while but yes last time I ran it was on much newer hardware and it really heated up the machine. I think it's the fog or the draw distance. If it's single core performance then no you can't really do anything about it. Pretty sure that game was made before multicore was even a thing. Just look at benchmarks of OG Crysis running on modern systems to see a game that uses mostly 1 core running only soso today.

I don't play enhanced silent hill 2 edition on my more modern PC. But I can say from my own experience that it makes no sense to run 20 year old games on more modern systems. For something like that, the only tip I can give is to look at what requirements the original SH2 requires for the enhanced edition, and perhaps to look for a used PC on eBay that also has the appropriate hardware installed for such games.

(I speak from my own experience)

I didn't manage to get the enhanced version to work.

I'll stay away from davpn now, I had to reinstall my Windows 10 because of the enhanced file from the internet because the application could no longer be uninstalled.

I was actually pressured by a mdesaleah to play the original Silent Hill, i.e. the enhanced version, which I refused. I mean, it's my business what I play, isn't it?

And since the remake of Silent Hill 2 was out, he has disappeared from the Silent Hill 2 remake group. I think he was just a troll trying to impose his opinion on others and ignored everything else.
