I'd add a spoiler warning, but hard to spoil a story that don't exist...
You are asking for spoilers with a comment like this. I would rather not give any and I hope nobody else will.
This means I didn't know about the ending, and absorbing the whole story just left me in awe. Amazing game, well done.
RE became more like "action oriented" than "horror oriented", even when the first game did tried to be a bit like a "simulation of an 80s b-horror movie".
like the first resident evil, silent hill was created to try to make what could be an "actual horror game", but closer to what other earlier "horror games" tried before both (like "clock tower", in which the protagonist can become easy target for the "evil entity").
silent hill one is superior in most aspects relative to storytelling and setting to silent hill 2, but the original version of silent hill 2 improved some aspects in gameplay, and tried to explain a few aspects about why monsters in silent hill look how they look, which in sh3 (the actual sequel) for sh1 help to also make not only the storytelling and the gameplay a bit better than in both, in some aspects.
sh4 is more like this one: a "sidequel", but made with even more limitations and also feels "smaller".
you are: just play "silent hill 2 enhanced edition" for pc.
maybe after finishing it, you will appreciate why this "remake version" isnt as good as the activists try to make it look. the original had better pacing, and storytelling, even when the combat system needed to be refined a bit more (still wasnt as bad as the one introduced in this version, since this one should have been significantly better and isnt).
is free, and has improvements to make the game work and look nice in modern systems.
I'm hoping this game gets more compelling. It just feels like I'm constantly in a brown rotted building and not seeing the spooky town. I'm gonna hang in there though. I'll find you Maria, or Mary or whoever!!
No, I'm the one that hasn't finished it or played the original SH2 :p This game is a lot of peoples favorites, II see Pyramid Head references everywhere for years.. so.. just kinda curious why it's so iconic. I played for another couple hours after work today. Gonna beat it and then leave a review. I hope there's NG+ or.. something.
The game absolutely does get deeper, but the gameplay loop doesn't really change much from what you've already experienced, and that may affect how engaged you are if you're not really enjoying it. That may change, though, if the story starts to hook you. Speaking of story, it's okay to not really be intrigued this early on. SH2 is a SLOW burn, and the remake feels even slower considering how much longer it is than the OG, but I feel the payoff is totally worth it, especially if you're going in blind. It will also change the way you view everything on subsequent playthroughs. There is a NG+, but outside of adding some new items for additional endings and the chainsaw (which is pretty freaking OP), not much else changes. I'd still suggest playing through the game at least one more time after finishing. You pick up on so much more when you understand what's going on.
Believe it or not, there is actually a story reason for why he seems so unfazed by everything, but you need to push through to understand. Can't say more than that without spoiling anything.
Also, understanding that the play style I should probably be choosing for a first time play through is to rush the objectives, and that ANY exploration is likely because I want to with some added ammo and health items. Good god I have so much health items and ammo.
You're very welcome! I'd love to hear your thoughts once you're finished, so please keep us updated!
Play however you feel like playing. Even though exploration mostly nets you extra health and ammo, the atmosphere in the town and dungeons are as much a part of the gameplay experience as anything else. If you're having fun taking things slow and exploring, I don't see a reason start rushing now.
