I figured out that you will have to fill in -dx11 into the startoption of the game. It starts, but runs horrible.

Just bought the game, downloaded, selected proton experimental and added the recommended settings but the game just opens a black screen. The initial logo shows up for the game but then I just get either a black square in the middle of my screen, or a full black screen. Occasionally I get a short sound of some kind when the full black screen appears, but then nothing?..

I'm on Pop!_OS 22.04 with a GeForce 3070Ti

That's BS though. One shouldn't have to rely on forum solutions to get a damn game to work properly that should work in the first place, and that has already been out for months. unacceptable.

Judging by the overwhelmingly positive reviews this failware has on Steam, SH fans absolutely adore this one feature so far. They tremble with bliss feeling every second of those fps drops.

...and not ONE of them works, at all. the game runs randomly after many, many restarts until/if it finally caches shaders.

I am getting crashes and black screen on start up too. Guessing the devs are away for the holidays...awkward timing for the game to stop working.

I just purchased the game, had the issue of crashing on startup... I had previously had the Epic Games launcher installed and it was out of date. I had to update it to the latest version. Seems like it wouldn't be related, but I think there's some unreal engine dependencies that weren't accounted for. Now it seems to work fine.

Ok GUYS, I'm not sure how useful this may be for some of you, but this randomly worked for me and I havent seen the solution anywhere else.

I went to the NVIDIA app (the new one), went into the "Graphics" section and found "SILENT HILL 2". This leads you to the optimisation section. Instead of optimising anything, press the 3 dots in the top left and choose to launch the game. This should prompt Steam to launch the game and a window will pop up saying the game is trying to launch with the argument "-DX12". Just let it do its thing and suddently the game launched fine for me??

Make sure to remove your -DX11 argument from the Steam launch settings. I didnt do any tweaks to the actual files of Silent Hill 2. All default new install.

I'll add my strange fix. I updated the EpicGames Launcher. I don't know why this fixed it. I saw this suggested in another thread and figured I had nothing to lose by trying. It worked. I still don't know why.

After updating my nvidia drivers (I'm using Pop!_OS), the game launched but just sitting in the menus, not even playing the game yet, my laptop is hotter than the sun. I think the driver I was on was 470 without RTX enabled, but that wasn't working. The 560 and higher driver seems to work, when RTX is enabled. I'm using a 3070Ti laptop GPU.

On my desktop windows partition, the game works after you launch is several times. In that machine I have a 4080OC. Frame rates drop randomly, and there is some stuttering occasionally.
