Remakes have been nominated in the past and also this year so it couldn’t have been the reason.
Or you could just accept it as the personal collective opinion of a hundred or so people and it doesn’t need to make sense.
Edit: horror games have been nominated and also I believe at least one has won GOTY by this specific gaming award show. So this couldn’t have been the reason
Fantasy VII Rebirth was probably the biggest disappointment for the excessive padding and eye strain inducing upscaling. I wanted to enjoy Wukong but I bought it on PS5 like an idiot not realising that it looks and performs like dog turds. Dragons Dogma 2 was just beyond atrocious in that regard, especially considering even at it's best settings it's still quite a drab looking game. But I don't really feel like this was a great year anyway, I spent a lot of it working through some of the games in my backlog.
this is the only correct answer
It's not that hard to put an award for Best DLC or Best Remake.
