Silent Hill 2 wasn't even nominated for GOTY
Anyone knows why? Seems like a good horror-adventure game (never played original)

Horror games are only a tiny part of gaming industry.

You have to individually ask the one hundred or so judges (mostly gaming journalists) why they nominated the games they nominated in each category.

Remakes have been nominated in the past and also this year so it couldn’t have been the reason.

Or you could just accept it as the personal collective opinion of a hundred or so people and it doesn’t need to make sense.

Edit: horror games have been nominated and also I believe at least one has won GOTY by this specific gaming award show. So this couldn’t have been the reason

long story short: not mainstream enough

Maybe it's because it has significant performance issues as well as being a remake, meaning it's also not treading any new ground. I consider the game itself to be good, around the 7/10 mark for me personally (8/10 if the game was actually optimised). But I'd likely put Astro Bot, 1000xResist, Neva and Metaphor Re-Fantazio ahead of it. And no I'm not expecting many people to agree with those choices, but they're the games that engaged me the most. Final

Fantasy VII Rebirth was probably the biggest disappointment for the excessive padding and eye strain inducing upscaling. I wanted to enjoy Wukong but I bought it on PS5 like an idiot not realising that it looks and performs like dog turds. Dragons Dogma 2 was just beyond atrocious in that regard, especially considering even at it's best settings it's still quite a drab looking game. But I don't really feel like this was a great year anyway, I spent a lot of it working through some of the games in my backlog.

This game deserved an award but the award itself isn't special. Its the community and being authentic with the craft of design and storytelling that lives on long after awards. Making people feel deeply and changing their lives. An award can't achieve that, a studio that is honest with humanity is the award in itself to me.

The host, Geoff Keighley, hates Konami because of how they treated his friend Kojima. Don't expect any Konami game to win anything at his award shows.

Kojima had it coming, i heard he was spending billions of Konami dollars, just to create defecating horse alone, in MGSV

All bad guys (that treated Kojima boy) very badly, are no longer working in Konami. In fact, it's a different people that got punished, for nothing, during Game Awards show... Geoff really is a bad guy here and very childish, like he never grow up mentally in some departments. Kojima will go and who will be there for Geoff? Nobody

While I enjoy the narrative it’s the same story as the original. Outside of visuals nothing in the game is goty worthy. Imo remakes should be out of the running same with expansions.

Remakes or DLC's shouldn't be a GOTY nominee but I think game awards is bs anyway.
It's not that hard to put an award for Best DLC or Best Remake.

Luke Roberts was definitely a contender for best VA performance imo.
