I hate to break it to you, but they are all VIDEOGAME characters. lol.
Even in 2024, NONE of them look like passable real humans (even the mo-capped ones in Until Dawn, Dark Pictures or Hellblade II). They are all obviously fake approximations. This is a known issue in gaming and animation, because we are not quite there with technology yet to accurately render photo-realism in games (or cheaply in animation).
You can render these models in games 80% of the way there, but then you create a 'uncanny valley' effect that is so well documented as repulsing people, that no one in the mainstream gaming industry really tries to achieve that anymore. Perhaps next generation, but not yet.
They all look like avatars, dolls or androids - even in the best examples. Humans are evolutionary wired to detect things that are not humans. So I never get the point of arguing that they do not look attractive enough or realistic enough.
"Okay" and realistic aren't the same thing though. They still look like aliens who stole someones skin.... then got lost in Silent Hill (bad day). lol. :)
I agree that he's much closer to his appearance in the original game. Though I think they all look fine to my eye - some just made the four generation transition better than others.
James has that hair that obscures half his face, which probably helps. He's particularly stylized compared to some of the other characters.
I think that's why Eddie also made the transition from the old lower poly GC cut-scene footage to the modern in-game models as well as he has. Though some people even have a issue with him.
*Edit: I also don't think anyone can argue that the in-game models here look better than the in-game models of the original. Compare Maria's face in that to this game and get back to me! :P
Funny you say that...
Victoria Secret tried, "the normal girl approach" and backed out fast...

Used one of your scripture websites but to avoid you reading anything, progressive rebrand failed. Yeah the progressive site claims it was too late after praising them the whole time but downplaying another industry being killed by faux progressive rebranding.
We already heard from execs now, just lie about your product but inject the progressive messaging. Self-destruction can't become the norm, it ends societies. If you get everything you want, which includes othering one group of people or more society ends. The ideology can't sustain itself because if all the useful people check out you have to keep food and water running and we know the purveyors of the agenda are incapable of office work much less working in a sewer or farm field.
This is obvious, the fact that this needs explaining is why its clear people like youre are just gaslighting here.
Okay. I was reasonable and even nice to you... I'll be respectful, but gloves are now off.
I was a visual artist for years. I worked in computer animation. I have been gaming since the 1980s. I have seen so many games and animated properties be reworked over the years (this is not new).
You are comparing the way a character looked in 480i GC video from 20+ years ago to in-game high poly models made by a completely different developer on different engine (and hardware), running in-engine.
You're repeated use of "disfigured" is a straw-man. It's opinion and not a valid point you can weigh. It sounds like you are saying "it did not look like this before, and [insert character] looks better - so why does this other look worse".
It's not that simple. Why I have to "explain this to YOU" is simply astounding.
Its clear to me that you have no bloody clue how modeling/rigging models works or have any experience in the field of 3D visual arts. You barely seem to understand how technology or graphics are handled.
The fact that you actually said I am "gaslighting" because you have NOT A SINGLE hard fact beyond a repeated vague opinion, proves you just can't handle being incorrect. THAT is facts
It's not worth my time for anymore explanation (it's clearly getting me nowhere with you). Please download Blender, Maya, etc and rig up your own models and show the world how it is done. Put them online, make some cool videos and I'll be happy to discuss this stuff with you then.
*Edit: Otherwise I suggest you stop complaining and throwing accusations around because it's not productive. It's pointless for people to be arguing over this (me included). Either play it or don't. If as many people complaining about game models these days, spent that same time and energy learning to make games themselves... this would be a much more educated space.
Thank God for ESG scores, am I right?
DEI kills Art and people.
The more realistic the graphics the more uncanny valley hits if big things like proportions are off
I think you should call her. Don't lash out with tired insults.
Come up with something new or bow out. Can't even be inventive with your passive aggressive conditioned auto-reply?
