but they sound the exact same, albeit a higher quality.
I don't think that's true. I think they're very faithful, but they're definitely different, at least slightly.
It reminds me of other remake/remasters where they updated the music like Persona 3 and Final Fantasy VII: Crisis Core. You can definitely tell the difference between the remakes and the originals.
you don't think what's true? that they sound the exact same? they've got the same sheets & tabs, maybe you'll notice a minor difference with quality but idk what to tell you
That they "sound exactly the same". They don't. It feels different.
The real question is whether it hits the same, not if they sound the same.
it's the same guy who did the original soundtrack producing them, with the same tabs & sheets, there might be a few minor additions to the soundtrack which i am yet to notice
ime, it's just a higher quality remaster of the original audio, look online and give them a listen and make judgement yourself
I have looked online. I have listened. I have made my own judgement.
My judgement is the PS2 original "feels" better. The melodies are more pronounced.
Now I'm asking for others opinions to see if it's just me, lol.
I feel like this will happen to me, too. Once I'm playing it myself and I'm in the moment during certain scenes, it will likely hit different.
ace attorney soundtrack is a decent example. the original gba is too crunchy for most people, then you have the NDS ringtones that people enjoy, then with 3ds they switched that to stringed instruments and those are ironically the less popular arrangements. this phenomenon goes for readability of game visuals and the feedback of jumps and inputs in general.
