halfway through and I'm finding myself somewhat bored. I don't think this is anywhere near as good as reviews make it out to be ..... perhaps standards have declined significantly. I just don't find anything 'horror' or 'creepy' about this release. Maybe the setting but otherwise, i don't feel a sense of dread in the pit of my stomach like the OG releases did for me.

Its "modernized" gameplay is what it gives the mediocre feeling because it's like every other 3rd person game. You'll feel right at home ihere f you played the RE2 remake, which again had generic gameplay Apparently, homogenization across games is what most people prefer these days haha.

I trusted mainstream outlets quite a lot when I was younger. Nowadays they're nothing more than a marketing machine for game publishers.

As much as anyone in this thread likes SIlent Hill 2, there's just no objective way it deserves a NINE. It is a SEVEN at best.

To be fair, it's really not supposed to be. The official data book states that monsters in Silent Hill 2 are supposed to be pretty weak because (MAJOR STORY SPOILERS) James is a murderer who is in denial about being one, so by making him murder others, the town attacks his denial and forces him to acknowledge the truth about himself.

i kinda feel like the fact you can often weasel and finagle your way out of direct encounters in sh2 to be simulating / echoing james avoiding mary. it's not really a game you play to be challenged by attack patterns, everything's for the tone.

This is true, but I also look at how many other horror games Ive played since then and kinda know Im going to be hard to scare. That being said, this game needs to be a mainstream success to fund the others is why I think they didnt make it "too scary". I'm still looking forward to running for different endings regardless, the gameplay and exploration is actually FUN!

Feels like developer fan-fiction where they remake the game but forget everything that made the original what it was. They just miss the mark completely.

I am forcing my way through the Hospital....I don't have much time left before I uninstall and come back a year or two from now after some patches

Just as bad, if not worse. I at least completed the RE3 Remake. I don't think I can force myself through this any longer.

It's just going through a maze opening doors in a creepy setting and moving on to the next area. Gameplay mechanics take a complete backseat to setting and graphics but it just not fun. There's new game plus but I dont see many people memorizing these maze-like maps just for a speedrun

I just can't trust mainstream reviewers anymore. They are not reviewing these objectively. There's a financial incentive for sure. I refuse to accept this game as NINE by IGN and other outlets. This game doesn't deserve a score higher than 7 and that's still being generous. I'd give it a 6 since it's just so forgettable

I'm nearing the end of the Hospital section and I'm just about ready to uninstall. The loop is just you going from room to room looking for items to open up the next area.

uhhhhhhhh that's my point. You ARE a powerhouse in this game and not just an average dude named James who is going crazy. Dodging and weaving monsters like a golden gloves boxer while shooting them with 100's of bullets with zero firearms training.

Maybe im not a pro 40 y/o gamer like you but on hard mode im not getting the same experience. I guess you have a better gaming chair since the game is so boring. Maybe reading a book on the porch or taking your grandchildren to soccer practice is more your speed?
