They have access to the game, an early access before it's regular release.
Not all of the people who preordered bought the extra $$$ edition for 48 hour early play. If people keep paying for that BS then companies will continue to put it in and it will only get worse.
also "the numbers" are more than just the first numbers you can get your hands on lmao. Plus it's a singleplayer game and the actual money they make matters more than the concurrent player count for whether we get more.
The game is not in early access, but the people who paid more do have an early access to the game.
In general, a player who intends to buy a game buys it. There will be a little more sales tomorrow for sure (I took the standard edition myself) but it won't be amazing. We are not going to go from 10,000 to 200,000 for a 10 dollar difference. The majority of players are generally in early access, it helps to get an idea of the fanbase.
