which one first
I've never really played Silent Hill 2 OG, but I'm told that the remake is different in a lot of ways compared to the basic one, so I'll play the OG one first or the remake first (knowing that I'm going to play both anyway)

You decide. I would play remake first given it released just now, honestly og looks pretty bad graphics wise, since it is an early PS2 game.

It's not that different, remake just makes the same story deeper by adding more context and few new scenes.
If you don't want to be spoiled play remake first and after that try the OG.

Depends what you want.

New one is more typical action horror, but with a worse story and characters. And the pacing is thrown off by being too long and stretched out.

While the original is definitely better in terms of story and artistic vision. The little details and tone are part of what makes it extremely interesting, and thats lost when you ignore those.

If you just want a horror game to run through and dont really think deeply about stories/characters, then remake is ok.

But if you really want to see why a 20 year old game is even popular enough to be getting a new interpretation, then Enhanced Edition makes the original work on modern PCs. And the game still plays very well. Its also the version that will most likely remain the one thats repeatedly analyzed over and over again cause it just has more substance.

The remake is good, but the original is better. Play the original first, and use Enhanced Edition.

Its really hard to discuss all the nuances lost in Remake, compared to Original/Enhanced Edition.

Cause its all heavy spoilers. Especially with characters and how they "sound" based on different scenes.

I agree with you on the original having better vision artistically, but how can you say the remake has a worse story when its the exact same?

If you want the true vision of the creators story and ideals, play the original first.

Its the characters.

I get that it might sound confusing, but SH2 Original is a multi-character study. So if you change the direction of those characters, you are pretty much changing the story as well. You can have the general story highlights, but the reason it lands so well still, is because of all the attention the original places on characters and how they act/sound/behave.

Remake feels more like a Movie Adaptation. Its fine, but it misses out on a lot of details by accident, and the original intent is not completely there.
