Engine sucks, just like every UE before it, but now worse the more they've crammed into it. Publishers make devs use it because it's extraordinarily cheap to license, and it's easy to use. But the ease of use is what makes games perform like sh!t as staff with deep technical knowledge aren't 'required' so anything more than extremely basic optimisation doesn't happen.
That being said, they didn't even enable a shader compilation step which is baked into the engine, so that goes to show just how little they know about the engine they're working with.
I like Bloober's games, but they've never been a studio focused on performance. Their last game 'The Medium' was even worse than this performance-wise so at least they've learned something.
They've been testing two builds for days, I think we could see a patch between today and tomorrow
