yes and no. I think overall, it was a lot better. However, it is also borderline impossible to sneak passed any creatures, so it ends up draining you of resources quite a bit and starts to feel tedious. The read tedium comes from returning to that main room, at which time there are even more enemies, and you have to get to the next door.
So overall I think it is better designed than the OG prison, but it is also a bit more annoying too.
And all of that is still present in the remake--and more.
