*QUESTIONS ABOUT ENDINGS SO SPOILERS* How do the different endings even work?

Yo, just finished the game and I loved it. But I actively played in a way so that I would get the "Leave" ending, but I received the "In Water" ending instead. How? I always kept my health high (I understand that I have to heal as soon as possible if the screen turns red at all), listened to a particular conversation, inspected Marys belongings multiple times and never the knife etc. I just do not understand how I even got that ending. Not that it is bad but it is definitely not the one I wanted or my favorite. Does anyone know what may have triggered this as guides online specify everything I already did. Thanks!

You probably didnt do this:

"Inspect Mary's Letter and the Photo of Mary in your inventory at least twice over the course of the game. Do not leave them behind when you take the Employee Elevator in the hotel."

You also don't want to spend too much time with maria and let her get hurt by the monsters

The exact criteria for the three 'normal' endings in this game is still not decisively known, so all of the 'guides' currently out there are using the same vague language used for FAQs of the original for years and years before the original's ending points system was finally discovered.

I'd take any info along those lines for the remake with a grain of salt, for now. For all we know there's RNG elements to it this time around, lol.

I did inspect Marys stuff as stated before. Perhaps I was too nice to Maria this time around?

I see. Probably even more stuff that you need to do/dont this time around since the game is longer. I have seen multiple guides completely contradict each other as well lol

So I managed to get the Leave and leave with Maria endings. Without replaying the Intier Game (you need to have a safe befor the final pyramid head bossfight.)

For the Leave ending:
-Inspect the Photo of Mary one more time befor going into the pyramid head boss fight (I didnt inspect it once during my first play).
-after the fight take both eggs palce them on the correct door and make sure to go through the door with the rooten one (right door)
-Listen to the intier Monologe of Mary befor leaving the Hallway
(I Also heald myself allot during both boss fights to stay at full health)
This triggered the Leave ending for me

Leaving with Maria
-Inspect the Knife befor heading into the boss room
-make sure to stay at low health
-place both eggs at the door and go through the red egg door (left)
-In the long hallway leave befor mary ends her Monologe
this triggered the Leave with Maria ending

That did unfortunately not work for me. Must have done a lot of stuff I should not have earlier that has locked me into it. Oh well, may just have to replay it and that is not what I would call a bad thing. Thanks anyway!
